Yep. Do it yourself online! There are a lot of options for large purchases, 401k, tuition, etc... you don't have to be a 1040ez to do it yourself.

i would imagine it's relatively quick, we do DD and it takes 2-3 wks after we file our return.

it is pretty comprehensive adn idiot proof. and it can do some pretty decently complicated tax returns as squoddy said, w/ 401k, tuitions, and ask you questions to try and help you get the most you can.

and i be the chances of getting audited are pretty slim if you don;t lie since it;s Turbotax

i think they are offering it for free even, it just cost $ to file.

well if your getting back $7500/12mos, thats $625/mos that you could be using to live off of vs paying taxes on and getting 1 fat check at tax refund time.

honestly sounds like your income is level is pretty low + 1 kid deduction , and your getting all your $ back and then some (which mean's society is paying you for your kid).

or HUGELY overpaying taxes every month.

I have been a single mom of two for five years now and have NEVER understood that kind of return...

And I agree- you would do much better with the extra money in your pocket every month (if you're overpaying) - if not overpaying, then congrats on the gov't being a sucker. I haven't figured out how to work the system, yet.

You don't have to have more kids to raise your dependents on your W-2. It's just a way that they won't take as much money out of your checks = more in your pocket every payday. Being single, you shouldn't have to worry about owing, either. The trick is to come out even at tax time. Why give Uncle Sam an interest-free loan? I guarantee they won't return the favor.

i just got my taxes done at h&r block and was very satistfied. i showed up around noon as a walk in and was done around 6, after having to drive back home for a forgotten item and waiting an hour for the guy to be freed up again.
he got us a whole lot more than i had expected. i filed jointly with my wife and claimed my 2 kids as dependents and i think i had 4 exemptions. i work and my wife is a housewife/homemaker/mom and the guy got us $5k. this wasnt including our 1st time homebuyer's stim, which we are going to have ammended to our taxes in 2 weeks, for an estimated $7500

the best part was the price. i went with jackson hewitt last year and they charged over $500. this year, H&R cost me $201.
oh yeah, and i'm getting the money in 8 to 15 days with a direct deposit to my account

I think turbotax, you can do your taxes for free, and see how that compares to H&R and see if they really make a diff.

complaints about H&R blocks quick refund

It's called earned income credit, but if you make too much you don't qualify. Check into it..

Well, I USED to make too much, now I make nothing- but I have assets. And there was no such tax credit when I bought my home.

Anyway, I've used H&R Block ONCE - when Toni and I had a business. We over paid for services available to us online - that's what we learned. In fact WE (Toni and I) were able to ammend the return and get more on our own.
