Why are there not more women in MotoGP?
... Or any other high-level Moto racing for that matter.
Even locally with CMRA racing they have a women's groups and I don't think they mix in a lot with the "regular" (men) racing. It seems to me that this would be a sport where the size of the athlete does not really matter and being smaller would actually give an advantage. I've wondered this for quite some time. Not just Moto Racing but, nascar, F1, horse racing etc... Why is that? Why don't more women take advantage of possibly dominating these sprots? Reasons/Opinions? |

Not that many woman ride. Not that many women who ride do track. Not that many women who do track, want to race. Not that many women who race at club level are fast. Racing REALLY DOES take physical exertion and fitness along with talent and drive. Like any other sport, men (as a whole) will (most likely) always be more the best. |

I think it also depends where you live. In Houston, I rarely saw/met any female riders. But here in Northern California, there are a lot of women riders and good ones too. I think you will start seeing them become more publicized when things start coming back to normal for the entire country.
Great subject matter btw ![]() |

Talking about fast girls...
I remember when I took the clss and during the mock race, at TWS (Texas World Speedway), Theressa Riggs toying with me around the track... I was given all I could and she was laughing at me... I've had plenty fun following and chasing Stacey Braden as well... another real good rider and boy can she go fast! And I can name a few more in our club that I could learn from Erica Muse is in another level!!! good luck keeping up with her if you ride minis... like Anita Thomas before she had to stop riding... |

There are some up higher in ranks but it’s a numbers game and man or woman getting to something like MotoGP are enormous odds with many potential end of road setbacks along the way. Other professional moto sports where women have excelled is drag racing both bikes and cars in the top categories.
But back to road racing I wanted to drop in some links below of some who have come close. Part of the reason we may not think there are women is you can’t even tell them apart when on track as first vid shows. Have a look at end of video the list of names all in Moto3/2 and some MotoGP currently. Yet on that day they all lost to a girl ![]() Below is interview from the race, while in Spanish translation goes something like: Maria what was it like to take win over your teammate and pull even on points; incrrreediblie. Fabio what say you: When I will go on to be factory Yamaha MotoGP rider one day I will quietly always remember this day. There are many others, I’m making light of it, but yeah it’s possible but many run into same issues that stop anyone else, injury, run out of money, results get harder to come by and things dry out. |

Another in the World roadracing ranks is Ana Carrasco who couple years ago won the 300cc world supersport championship.
She came in 3rd last year but had a season ending testing crash breaking two vertebrae this year. Link below. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc...sport/54168076 Another gang to keep any eye on is this bunch: https://themotolady.com/suzuka-4-hou...-make-history/ https://themotolady.com/tagged/midori-moriwaki/ Many of them already changing focus to team owners after their own racing careers now, and doing well in that. One such example Midori Moriwaki who rides but also am engineer and now team owner manager for WSBK Honda privater team, also bikes by company that bears her name won Moto2 world championship with Toni Ellias riding. Being granddaughter to “pops” Yoshimura its in the blood. ![]() Another rider from that bunch also giving back in team owner manager role is our Melissa Paris. There is good video and interview in link below. She brings up many points towards some of your questions. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ref...orcycle-racing Another case caught my eye switching to dirt was Livia Lancelot who was first woman to score points in MX2 ( Europe’s version of Motocross ) and she now is team manager. https://gatedrop.com/interview-livia.../#.X_k5zOROKEe A lot more other stories can read about in link below. https://issuu.com/fim-live/docs/broc..._2019_100/1?ff |

I'm wondering why it's not more 50/50... it could be lack of interest from women riders i guess... I just think this would be advantageous for women, but I could wrong. |

I agree with Kenup, it's a numbers thing. There are just some activities that appeal more to men than women.
Most dangerous and racing related sports don't appeal to very many women. It takes a rare combination of physical strength, coordination and reflexes, not to mention determination, ambition and some luck to reach the very top. With so few women attracted to the idea at the very beginning, it's no surprise that nearly zero make it to the top. BTW, don't underside the strength and stamina required just to do trackdays. Racing, even at the lowest levels is even more intense. Those guys at the top are athletes in every sense of the word. |

![]() Society has been slow moving on the important things. Hopefully we can get back to creating a leveled platform for ALL to succeed and treated fairly. I'm so tired of hearing/seeing stupid things that support hate and mistreatment of differences between all of us. ANYWAYS..... I support females competing in this sport and hope to see them break into the superbike world of racing soon ![]() |

From just the headline I was equally feeling WTF.
As i read more there was no demand but rather a condition that came with negotiating for a ride she could not afford. So in the end was just a case of not having enough money or backing to secure a ride at level she was seeking. Had things been equal from a gender perspective it would have been over before having the chance of being offended. |

Some on my short list: Gymnastics, Downhill skiers, Figure Skaters. Great leg strength, and flexibility, visual motion coordination, ability to pick out lines use reference to act and execute a plan in space and time. I often ponder if an athlete from one of these, many of which have short prime time windows, then picked up motorcycling in their late teens or after an early retirement could really make something happen on a motorcycle. Also on my list are swimmers but more from a body type perspective as long lanky legs and arms are the build type that I see most relevant to racing, its not enough to just be small. We can talk about Dani Pedrosa some more who exemplifies what being small but not being able to move your body around does for you. Ideally the larger the window you can move your body around in the better on that front. |

Quite simply...most sports are masculine dominated. There's a lack of AUTHENTIC support for females in any sport, from outsiders/strangers and even from family. Most societies consider any sport "masculine" and that it should be that way.
It's no longer a shock to hear people comment on my riding and how they're usually surprised at how well I ride. Normally, if I was a male with the same riding experience I have, no one would be "surprised" at how "well" I ride. It's just a habit that the world has issues breaking out of. Companies are barely coming out with gear truly suited for different types of female bodies...and that in itself is a turn-off for many women that are interested in riding but don't because of the lack of gear made for us. This is gettin better though. So to reiterate, it's just a lack of support/inclusivity...and therefore a lack of interest for many females. There are some of us that are really into the racing bit and few will pursue it. |
