Houston 2-Wheel Culture Gone???

I don't really work in the MC industry anymore outside of coaching, but from what I know, used bike sales are off the charts still and classes stay booked up several months out. Motorcycling isn't going anywhere in Houston.

My riding slowed down this year. Lost my job and my health insurance along with it back in Feb, as well as a bunch of other family/personal stuff going on, so my riding slowed waaaayyyyyy down for this year. Like, going from riding daily for the last 5 years to I've touched my bike once this month so far. Life happens.

I used to love going to the monthly meets. Things change, life, kids, busy etc. I do still ride a lot. Mostly solo rides on the weekends. I currently own 5 bikes, but only 2 are in the front line fleet. 2 projects, and one living room art exhibit. LOL

The car/truck culture is strong in Houston. Street racing is still popular and car meets have always been (and still is) a popular tradition for Houston. I am pretty puzzled why the forum is dead? Since I've been living in California performing contract work, I joined a local motorcycle forum here. Their motorcycle community is very active, almost as active as MH used to be! Which leads me to believe there's still a chance MH can come back... It just needs a breath of fresh air.

I used to do the MotoLoco in ventura but I started just riding solo.

I'm north of SF, so they call the general area the Bay Area. The forum out here is called BARF (Bay Area Riders Forum). Pretty catchy name

BTW...the culture is LIVE and kickin'. I went on a group ride with some buddies on Wednesday night and we found many riders at the Dillards in the Galleria area.





There were more on the left and right of us. The most bikes I've ever seen in Houston in one place (excluding the Lonestar Rally)...

I am back, and forth, between several forums. Bike specific, and general. But between those forums, I work two jobs, and just have little time. And what time I do have available, working on projects. But at least I ride almost daily again.

As for the culture, it's still alive, and well. My personal opinion is that a lot of us (now older guys), aren't into the whole " show of force" pack riding whooliganism, like we used to. My experience is, we still enjoy it, but in smaller, tighter, somewhat more responsible groups.

Pretty much what happened to me. When I moved into town I sold my bikes and just been having a hard time getting back.

I lurked around for as long as I could with the central meets, but eventually I faded out cuz no point if I don't have a bike.

Here and there I'll lurk, but don't have anything "post worthy" to share.

I am 70 this year an still own 6 motorcycles but they are mostly dust collectors now.
I had some health issues that made me stop racing and doing track days in my mid-60's
I could still ride but racing and track days are likely just a fond memory...
I moved out of downtown about 4, almost 5 years ago so I would not likely come into town for meets, but I did enjoy going to them and meeting to watch the races at the different sports bars ... some of the old heads that I used to have so much fun are arguing with (good natured) are no longer around...I really miss old Bill embarrassing me when we were on the same side of an argument....
not people post on here who would even know me anymore... but I still have a look everyday

R6 is gone ! Just have a 110 and 50cc dirt bike. I’d consider looking for another one if the culture came back. It was a good run
