Thread the needle and die? RIP Northbound

I haven't seen anything about this on MH. I usually don't post "anything" on RIP threads kuz I've lost several great friends and just don't care to go down that path again, but on this one I feel compelled. I'd like to know more about what exactly happened. Most of you know that 45 Gulf Freeway is arrow straight. I live just off of the western side and EVERY night I hear bikes just hauling . I've seen "many" singles and groups up to 7 threading the needle. Done it myself. Adrenaline rush like a supernova. My near miss = not worth it.

The motorcycle operator was northbound on the Gulf Freeway near Dixie Farm Road around 9:30 p.m., according to Houston Police Department Sgt. David Rose. The motorcyclist was swerving in and out of lanes, witnesses told police.

RIP to the rider... That sounds horrific.

I lived off Fuqua growing up and I-45 South was always the 'proving grounds' for who's the fastest.

The bike and Bentley were racing and ran the red light. The car was leading, tagged the van and the bike made the gap!!!

I've seen the FB one a few times. Similar to mine. Got home and changed underwear. I was just wondering if the witnesses for the dood on 45 were honest or had a chip on their shoulder kuz he made a quick lane change and they decided to embellish.

That has always been a dangerous area for a motorcyclist, riding responsibly or not.

Thread jack my own thread-

I "had" a Sharps 45-120. I forget who bought the rights to produce new serial numbers, but it was the first time a 120 of the Quigley (110) was made and the serial number was successive. I had the special order 36" barrel.

At the range it was like laying a telephone pole across the sandbags. I'd fire that howitzer and EVERYONE would look as 30 ft of smoke billowed down range. 500 yds with a Creedmoor, the best I ever got was just under 12" in 6 shots.

Preloaded was unavailable at that time. $4.00 per round just for the brass. So rare it was hand turned from bar stock. MASSIVE amount of work just to cast and load 10 rounds. Fire 3 and find there's a problem with the load??? You don't fire the other 7. Pull'm, dump'm, and start over from scratch.

Now to keep in line with thread rules, I find my 636 and R1 just a touch more fun, but a bit slower that the 120. The incomparable factor so far is the penetration of the bikes on a deer. The opportunity hasn't presented itself.

I'm on the hunt for a complete rolling block receiver to build a 45-2 1/4 (45/90) for the Quigley shoot. It probably won't happen before next year though, and I'll be competing with my trapdoor instead. I'm running a custom bullet I designed, which is a hybrid between the old 500gr government bullet, and the "new" postell design. Running a ladle poured 25:1 alloy it drops out of the mold right at 512gr. Shoving it with 63gr of Schuetzen 2F run thru a Lyman No.55 and a 30" drop tube, .025 card wad, unsized brass and seated by hand. I'll probably re-work the load with Swiss or Old Eyensford as we get closer to next June when the match comes around. After a fouling shot though, it stacks 5 in nicely at 100 and shoots well out to 300.

On the topic of the 45/120, I believe Starline is making brass for it now. Still not cheap, but you're not paying the premium for lathe turned case either.

Keeping with the thread topic. My only real close call where I think I actually could have crashed/died was not far from where this rider died. Of course I wasn't weaving in and out of traffic hauling either.

How do you add a pic to a Private Message?

50 yards
50 shots

Matched pair: Ruger Vaquero cowboy 7" w/customized blade sights.
Handload: 240 gr blunt power point
13.75 gr Hercules Unique
(note: I used 10 gr of this on top of the primer when I loaded my sharps. Just enough to semi clean the barrel between shots. It helped a lot.)
CCI Mag piston primer
Crono spread: 1320 - 1332 fps

Pic is back in the thread. I can't figure out how to add it to a PM.

I tried it. It's fun, really is but if you're gonna try to be authentic, which is encouraged, the costumes tend to be really hot. Some of the venues have no concessions or shade when not shooting.
If you aren't prepared with food drinks and a popup for shade, it will suck in the middle of July! Lol

Wool pants, long sleeves, some form of hat, maybe a vest... yeah, melt down!

But the actual shooting? It's a hoot!

I really should sell the guns, I'll probably never shoot them again :(
