Old rough leather gear...

So I am trying to ride in full gear, for all weather and riding style. With that being said, gear in general, starts to add up quickly! My pockets are leaning out in the 2-wheel department and now I'm exhausting other options so the wife doesn't beat me with a broom.

I found and bought second hand two piece racing leathers. They're kinda rough, but I couldn't pass up the offer ($40 total.) I'm not trying to sneak them by for track use, but I think they are perfect for temporary use until I can afford to buy better gear.

Is this better than nothing, or is beat up gear best dragged out to the back to put a bullet in it?

If the leather is not disintegrating and the stitches are strong itís good gear. $40 can mean done with the sport and want this out of my house not necessarily beat up beyond use.

One thing I won't do is buy second hand gloves... IMO, it's pretty gross thinking about sweaty palms, especially, sweaty palms that may have gone unwashed after many touches of who knows what

Yum. I like to lick my fingers after touching gasoline handles and water fountains. What’s so bad about gloves?

Lol! It's just me... I have seen other guys during rides, eat tacos, go behind a dumpster, and then proceed to put their gloves on without washing. I am weird like that... All I can think about is how much bacteria is festering inside those gloves

Most likely better than nothing. Be sure to get them oiled/conditioned really well. That will help keep the leather supple and more able to endure going down.

What conditioner do you recommend? The Fieldsheer leathers I got are looking like they need some.

Honestly, I just have a big bottle of boot leather oil that I use on LOTS of stuff. If you have to buy something new, im sure there are several good deep conditioners you can get. Id just be guessing if I recommended something. lol.

Could I use mink oil? I have a can of that left from a long time ago... I honestly don't know where I got it from to begin with

There are better things than mink oil, but it will do just fine. You'll likely see the need to reapply sooner than you would with something else. If you have it sitting there already, I say go for it.
