Angry The Jewish chronicles

Okay so I was at the ten minute oil change place the other day and the guy tells me I'm do for a fuel system cleaning for 69.99 and it's going to take a few hours....

First of all I drive about 98% highway miles. I really don't see how the car needs a fuel system cleaning at 15k.

Second, he described it as a "flush with a fuel system cleaner"

Isn't that just that gumout "every 15,000 miles" fuel system cleaner you get at the auto parts store for five bucks and pour it into your gas tank?

Does anyone know what process a shop goes through to flush your fuel system? Is it really necessary at 15K?

The whole thing just seems like a racket to me. Their advertised price 59.99-69.99. You would think based on this that if you were drive a dodge ram HEMI dually, you get charged 60.00, but nope! 60 bucks for a 2013 nissan versa

Why would anyone want a HEMI in a 1 ton???

They basically use Seafoam and slowly run it through a vacuum line while the car idles. If your really worried just dump a name brand fuel system cleaner in the tank. Generally with todays gasoline and with proper filter changes their shouldn't be any reason to need a fuel system "cleaning" in 15K. Just my opinion.

Dump a bottle of denatured alcohol in your fuel tank. It will accomplish the same thing.

Save that 70 bucks for something else.

For reference, my 92 f150 has 273xxx miles on it, on stock injectors.

they are trained to "upsell" other services. . .fuel system flush at 15,000 miles is not justifiable.

If they will rotate your tires at no additional cost I'd say that's a deal!

That or charge me the bottom tier of your price range since I'm driving a freaking economy car.

they want 69.99 for my economy car and their range is 59-69. I wonder what car is 59 dollars. A smart car?

Price based on work involved to do the job. Their may be a few extra things they have to do on your car versus, say an 02 Dodge with a 318.

LMAO. I just put 2 and 2 together, the vacuum line on a 02 Dodge with a 318 is out in the open, you can pull it off no tools involved. cars have all kinds of in the way that anyone who wears a glove med or bigger has to take off to reach anything.

That just tells the rest of us that they aren't doing a proper system flush anyway.
