only if the truckers are talking. ironic, that as a professional driver, I had the damned thing off more than when I was just playing on the radio.

I used to talked "skip" with my radios. I have talked to italy, puerto rico and alaska on 25 watts out of a 10/11 meter radio

Wow. I didn't know CB radios got this involved, I thought a radio is a radio is a radio. There's a market for everything!

Most dont know that people still talk on CB's, but trust me all day long when your driving in traffic and navigating around there are hundreds of people talking on the CB!

it isn't so much the radio but your set up. a good antenna mounted in the proper spot with good coax set to the proper swr's will go a long way towards "getting out". legally, all cb radios only put out 4 watts. the trick is to get radios that can be modded/converted easily.

Another suggestion is to get your amateur radio license. Communications wont be limited to a single band like CB. With a Technician class license you have access to VHF/UHF amateur bands in addition to 6 and 10 meters.

Both of those are alright for starters depending on how far you want to get out. I would recomed buying one from a local CB shop so they can peak and tune it right there in front of you (I know of some) and they dont charge you x-tra. If you buy it off of ebay it wont come peaked and tuned. Also both of those radios will only do about 15-25 peak watts after being tuned, if that is all you need then that will be fine. The first Cobra has more bells and whistles on it and is a newer design. Try looking at these radios....Stryker SR-440-HPC or Stryker SR-447-HPC, this radio has GREAT audio, more power (45-60 peak watts) variable power and way more bells and whistles. Alco check out Predator 10-K antennas depending on how much room you have for installation.
