SAG NUMBERS... % OR LENGTH?
Lets say you've decided on 25%... now then...
The front forks have 4" of travel, so rider sag should be 1". Now here is the question: If the rear shock has 8" of travel, sag should... A. Sag should be 2" (which gives you 25%) B. Sag should be 1" (same sag as the front but only 12.5%) (the two extremes in fork vs. shock travel are just used to make my question more clear, the travel is not THAT different in case you were wondering what kind of bike had such distorted front and rear travel) |

Why do you want to set your sags by percentage?
I have ohlins and they give me the sags by millimeter. |

Sag numbers depend on the bike, the rider and it's intended use, but typically they are not a percentage of travel.

![]() Anyway, I think I figured out what to do... I set the F & R at the same amount of sag in millimeters (although that makes the rear at 25% and the front at 30%) and it feels much better. ![]() |

I could set front sag at 40mm (30%) and the rear at 48mm (30%)... OR I could set front sag at 40mm (30%) AND the rear at 40mm (25%). See the difference? I put it at 40mm front AND rear and it feels much better, so I ultimately answered my own question ![]() |

My sags are set at 40mm front and 28mm rear. I attempted to set the sags myself after getting the suspension back from Ohlins and I screwed up the bike so badly I could barely ride it at the track. Lap times went from 47/48's to 52's. Had to get Patrick's help to fix it.
Keep in mind that sags have a huge impact on geometry as the bike is being ridden. I think the average track guy can feel as little as a 2 to 3mm change in geometry on the front or rear. |
