Slip & Slide
I went to visit my pops on Saturday night.
It had rained a little / Enough to slick up the roads. Coming to a red light I apply my breaks and down shift to second and slowly let out the clutch to decelerate. The rear end begain to slip so I adjusted my weight to save my . The end then begain to slide the other direction, so I shifted that direction (this entire time gently applying pressure to the front brakes). After sliding back and forth for about 1/2 a block the bike came to rest (rite side up and me still in control) My question is how to prevent this from happening. Later that night I only used brakes to stop and it didn't happen again. I'm not sure if this is what caused the icy like conditions or what ![]() |

Roads are like ice after it FIRST starts to rain and the oil sits atop the water. also paint lines in the street are moreso so avoid. If u have the room and the back started to slide i would have pulled the clutch back in to get the wheel turning again and to be VERY carefull with the front brake. Can handle the back locking up but no fun if the front does the same. just gonna have to slow down and give yourself more room. also a bald back tire is REAL slippery. Michael |

That happened to my friend on his way to austin. He still doesn't know how that happened. He was coming to a light and applied the brakes n it started swinging all the way to the middle of the intersection. What he thinks happened though is he hit the brakes on an oil spot. Maybe thats what happened?

I wasn't going fast at all.
I was in no hurry and didn't really care for driving in the rain so I was trying to be EXTRA cautious. But I guess speed could have been a factor. I think that the condition of this road had a lot to do with this but I'm not sure. The road is blacktop with that greasy they pour all over it. But if there is something I can do to have prevented this from happening I'd like to know. |

i for one need some hardcore advice in this area as well. i laid my 1st bike over 5 times, never going faster than like 25.
1st time- had the bike for a week, was drunk. easy fix, i dont ride drunk anymore. other 4 times- coming up to a red light at an intersection in the rain. yea, youd think id learn not to ride in the rain, but i had to go to work... now at that time, i didnt have alot going for me. tires were , brakes were , alignment (?) was , oh and technique was too im sure. bike i have now is in pretty good shape, but im sure my skills are still in that department, so if its raining i just park it. (i live close to work now) i think i need to take an advanced class where they bust out the garden hose in the parking lot, and teach how to do it right. |

I feel that in the rain you have to give yourself 3 times as much distance to stop as before.
If u can just use the motor to slow is maybe best. Not saying downshift and let out the clutch to where it breaks track but to just turn back the throttle. ALWAYS watch those paint lines cus they be slicker than snot.. Sometimes what i do is when i leave a light i goose it A LITTLE to get a feel of how slick the road is. see how easy it is for the wheel to break loose. just gonna have to learn the hardway to give yourself A LOT of stopping room and stay away from those front brakes. When i am stopping at anything i am always looking at the ground infront of me to see what's on the ground that might wash out the front wheel and if it looks like i will stop in the paint i take off the front brake. my 02 Michael |

I ran into the same problem i was pulling up to a light at a red light the other day it had just finished raining and i was going to go and have a little fun then i saw the light was red hit the breaks and bike slid a little ways never could get it to slow down ended up stopping in the middle of the intersection. lucky for me there where no cars..I have since then learned to slow my dumbass down on the wet roads...
