Ha ha ha - another iPhone 4 fail.

http://gizmodo.com/5571171/iphone-4-...e-antenna-band

Apparently several people are having signal issues when they hold the phone.

Oh, and as always, Apple.

Yup. I even saw this hilarious response to the article on FB:

Oh, the design flaw is OK, because you're supposed to spend more money on accessories for it to operate as intended.

Right.

seems like some are experiencing it and some arent, and even with it saying no service u can still make a call, its just a issue with the software, not a actual issue with phone signal

According to a couple people in the article, it's confirmed on speedtest.net that they were losing signal strength - they had slower speeds when holding it than when it was on the table. It doesn't completely block the signal, just make it worse.

I think this may be why they are selling the bumpers.

Is it any worse though then a antenna inside of the phone?

true, and even if it is a issue in the phone itself apple would replace or upgrade the iphone 4's already sold for free....

Haters or not, how can something SOOOO basic escape Apple software developers? Its been in production vs released for how long?
I'm not an iPhone cult follower nor a hater but its interesting to follow the mishaps on one of the most popular and widely anticipated electronic gadgets in the world.

I don't think it's a software issue at all. If it was, it'd be at random and NOT just whenever you're touching the phone. How can a signal drop when touching the phone even be accidentally written into or perceived by the software?

Yup. Nothing quite like buying a device that doesn't work properly until you also purchase its accessories (and even then, a guy did 3 tests - on the table, in hand, and in hand in leather case - and even in the leather case it lost some speed). As much as I hate Apple, they truely are quite genius in their marketing schemes. And people will still eat it up like candy.

I believe it has to do with grounding out the antenna or something like that. There was a link to an article explaining it, but it was a translated article and I didn't really feel like reading the whole thing.

Yup. Well, actually, I am kind of a hater, of Apple in general, but I'll still give credit where credit is due. For the most part, there isn't much to it other than misleading advertising. Apparently the video and screen quality is supposed to be pretty nice though.

It's how they've always worked. And somehow, it works.

This is not a drop test. This is the first iPhone 4 that breaks after a simple accident that anyone may have: A one-foot drop. Updated.

I can't make it happen on mine. I have tried several times now, but there is no scientific backing to that, that's just me trying at work, at lunch, and then here at home. A real test would have to be conducted numerous times with controlled constants, which is really difficult to do with any wireless system.

Cheeseman, you need to read more into stuff if you wanna talk bad about it and have anyone care. Any phone will vary data speeds over a wireless connection like that, completely sitting on a table with no one touching it and downloading a file throughput will always fluctuate. This is because there are so many variables on a wireless cellular network that are uncontrollable. There is not enough data so far to conclude much on these claims. I am sure REAL test will take place soon, and then we will have some for sure answers. Like I said, I can't seem to replicate with my iPhone 4 what I saw in the video. It is possible it's a issue with some phones and not all, after all, you sale a million devices, there will always be some bad ones in the batch, no matter who you are or how good of quality control you have.

Speedcheeser, I'm willing to bet if you spent a week with an iPhone you might appreciate it a bit more. My girl has one, and compared to my MyTouch, hers is hands down faster, sleeker, cooler and more efficient.
Its definitely a little gem.

I'm gonna call the one foot drop, BULLSHIT, Mine has fallen off the seat of my motorcycle out of my truck, been dropped into 2 beers and dropped on tile floor from waist level countless times and looks nothing like that. If it was one foot it was one foot yea but it bounced out of a airplane and hit concrete
