A New Trackday in Town 5-27-19

Hey All,

I know LOTS of you, if you have not heard yet I've worked with some really great folks from the Houston Area and developed a new trackday.

https://316trackdays.com

Please check out the site, and ask any questions you wish. I'll do my best to field them.

MOST of our Days are at MSR Houston

I need all your support to get this off the ground! We limit registration to only 34 people per group which is very low

(think of how many people are in your 5-6 round robin groups normally and do the math)

We are also doing new things like 1 Hour Sessions so you don't have to rush, and 4:1 ratio with a race mentor.

Please check out the site and ask questions !!!

Thanks!

Ignacio

I wouldn't mind doing some MSRH Mentoring. It's my home track, know the owner, agent's and Marshals well. I am a current Instructor for Ridesmart. Just let me know if you need any help.

Sounds good Bryan - we can talk about that, my guys get 2 HOURS of guilt free play time ;-) at 3:00 the vest comes off and you get 2 hours non stop to play if you are a Mentor.

PM me or Facebook me we can talk about it

Will this format lend itself to proper test and tune of old race bikes?

I have a number of old 2 stroke race bikes I really need to get out and stretch their legs properly every now and then but I tried the traditional track day approach and either traffic was so heavy I could never get the bikes out of 2nd gear and on the pipe or the time sitting in the hotpit waiting for track out was so long it negated any warm-up done before hand.

As long as you follow the "Golden Rules" I think the 1 Hour Sessions will give plenty of time.

When we did this format on 9-3-18 after 15 minutes the traffic lightens up and people are on/off the track resting or getting coached. You end up with a very very light number of people on the track at about 30 minute mark

Also just starting the session nobody rushes the grid, you can take your time

With these 2 points covered you may have hit on a winning formula.

These 2 issues are many times what differentiate a track day from test & tune day - so you may be onto something with this format

I'm shooting for "break even" + 10% which is risky as heck but I want to do this more for the community than for the bank account

A proven strategy is if you provide something of value people will pay for it if lowest prices were the only thing that matters then there would only be Walmart but people sometimes want H.E.B

In any industry you can see it Motel 6 vs Hyatt is another example

Motorcycle Riders are cheap but I think there are enough people out there who want more time on the track and less being rushed back and forth to classrooms to watch slide shows they've already seen

Everything has it's place .... I still get groceries at Walmart when my bank account is low =)

I like this. I shop at HEB, so this is right up my alley. I'll pay more for longer sessions and less people on the track and you're there. I used to alot of private days at MSRH but lost my contacts. This will fill my needs. See you at the track.

We had open sessions at the end of the day at MSRH under Fastline. We had like 5 or 6 line riders ending the session in warm months. Plenty of time to test, tune, and ride traffic free.

Ignacio, cost plus 10% means that if 1 in 5 trackdays are rainy or cold and only a few show up you'll not even break even.

In the case of Fastline, "we" (I use this term loosely) shut down after 5 or 6 of 7 or 8 trackdays were rained out, in a row. A $50k to $75k loss isn't worth the hassle for free track time.

And don't forget to have you and your mentors go thru the ridiculous background and licensing thing that was required bby the state. Not sure if it still is.

Best of luck. I always hope the "nice guys" succeed in offering some competition to the Wonder group. And when things are good, the sun shines, and no one crashes, it is really really good times.
