Upgrade thr rider, then the bike. Start with some trackdays, then you'll see exactly where you need to spend your money.

Forest Gnome Tour Guide

Gear is there to protect yourself from injury. Usually riders get the idea after their first wreck just how little they invested in gear. A good leather jacket, wrist covering hard knuckle gloves, and a 7-plate spine protector. Riding boots will make a world of difference in the sun or even rain. If riding back roads, kevlar reinforced riding pants and knee/shin guards are highly recommended, if not full leathers.
Tires are the single most significant change you can make to improve all aspects of the riding. All the riding you do has to translate to grip on the road which is done through the tires obviously. Assurance in the tires is just as important as the assurance in your pads. A track day would offer seat time in an enviroment that allows error and opportunity to push yourself within a safer enviroment then a public/country road. No blind corners(for the most part) and instructors to offer guidance. See our sponsors and come visit a track day event to see what it's all about. If you still want to do bike modifications, outside the LED/rear fender eliminator,integrator/frame slider range/headlight, a slip on will make the noise and be alot cheaper then a full system which really wont make too much an increase in power(mainly weight.) Change out the air filter for a little more pep. For more pick up for the dollar, change the throttle ratio(shorter twist) or go down a tooth in the front sprocket for more acceleration. Your top end will be sacrificed a little, but not too much. The chain would have to be adjusted but not replaced w the front change. |
