Usually in political forums, there's a fair bit of diversity, and because of this, users are challenged to defend or back up their claims and/or statements by other users etc. Theyre also forced to consider the possibility of offending others before posting.

This is not the case here.

Because of this, the level of debate here is very shallow, research here is very limited, and claims are supported without being backed up. I cant change that nor penalize for it. HOWEVER, I can penalize users for disrespecting others and others beliefs.

That being said, I ask all of you to consider others when posting.

Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength-

maybe you could anonymise users in a certain section? that way there would be no hard feelings in person

true... but you may also get more honesty in the thread... for example... there may be more obama fans but are scared of being chastized for being so... so they don't speak up in a debate

yes, but we all will instantly recognize "AHEM" (certain dang-slinging fundumbmentalists) even while cloaked in anonymous garb.
this should improve things. as long as I can make fun of peoples' religion, of course. and mine.

Exactly.

Frankly, the this section, as it is now, turns a lot of people off.

so when a user posts in a political debate thread... don't post their usernames or info... have it be anonymous user or each person can pick an alternate screen name for political discussions and they don't have to reveal their other name

I don't think people are afraid to post, I think they just dont have a desire to.

You know, that "lost cause" kinda feeling.

Frankly, I think this would have a negative affect. If people engage in personal attacks now, just imagine how free they'll get with some of it when their name isn't on it.

If someone is unwilling to put their name and reputation on a comment, then should keep it to themselves. IMHO

i agree. people need to just learn how to express their opinions without being insulting. ive been guilty of this from time to time.

+1. The only way your point of view will get heard is if you keep your cool. I have noticed that when I re-read some of my posts when in a debate that my points start to get skewed if it's something that I am attached to. When that happens it is time to walk away from it or step back and re-examine your point of view and a find good way to explain what is on your mind. Just my opinion.

Oh, and it is about time we got a babysitter in here to stop some of us idiots from mouthing off too much.
