Lightbulb Want Lowering Fuel Costs? Write Congress Now!

Gas prices at the pump are skyrocketing. Something must be done to help ease the burden on Americans' pocket books. Yet House Democrats refuse to let bills that would lower gas prices see committee or floor action.

It is high time they be held accountable for refusing to pass legislation that will help lower fuel costs while also lessening America’s dependence on foreign oil. Each week I'll try to highlight a piece of legislation that would do just that. A discharge petition will be filled by House Republicans and, if passed with the required 218 member signatures, send the bill directly to the House floor for debate.

To be successful, you MUST reach out to the your House representatives in Congress. You play a vital role in making an impact.

Act now and contact your representative about H.R. 2279, “Expand American Refining Capacity on Closed Military Installation.” This legislation would reduce the price of gasoline and diesel by streamlining the refinery application process and by requiring the President to open at least three closed military installations for the purpose of sitting new and reliable American refineries.

Who are my representatives?

What should you write?:

Quote:
Dear (your Rep)

As the [TITLE] of [COMPANY NAME] located in [CITY, STATE], I write to urge you to cosponsor and sign the discharge petition for H.R. 2279, the “Expand American Refining Capacity on Closed Military Installation.”

Fuel prices are already too high and keep rising. I understand all too well how rising fuel prices affect my bottom line. It is vitally important that action be taken to lower the price of fuel.

H.R. 2279, “Expand American Refining Capacity on Closed Military Installation,” would help reduce the price of gasoline and diesel by streamlining the refinery application process and by requiring the President to open at least three closed military installations for the purpose of sitting new and reliable American refineries.

The American people deserve that this legislation be brought to the House floor for debate. Please cosponsor and sign the discharge petition today for H.R. 2279.

I'm all for it cause when a new plant comes online, I am going to get paid to help build it one way or another. More money in my pocket which in turn makes more money to blow on gas. It's the circle of life!

i dont understand why people complain about gas... its pointless to complain when you have to use it no matter what or ride a bicycle or walk.

Seems like a great idea opening refineries on abandoned military bases. It would be great for the local economies that were effected when the bases closed. This seems like a no brainer what the is wrong with the demos that vote this down. Are they high too?

I don't complain about gas. I complain about the ineptitude of our elected officials.

High Gas Prices are not exactly great for the oil biz. A strong US dollar would be a lot better.

Just curious: do we have closed military installations that would be appropriate locations to construct refineries? Size, location, proximity to ports, etc.? Any idea what the candidate sites would be? Whos backyard?

The Expand American Refining Capacity Act would call for the President to identify three military bases slated for closure under the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission that would be suitable for locating new oil refineries.
