You need to make it breath better if you want 500whp..
A good read: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation...heads-cam.html |

You've got the same heads as I've got on my truck. I've been thinking about swapping intakes but apparently I would drop some torque. I'll be lucky to see 400HP with minor bolt ons.
Sounds good though. |

The Confusion

I wouldn't concern yourself so terribly with dyno numbers. Different brands of dynos read differently. If you want to know if your build is decent, take it to the track.

As far as how the car runs, it's a easily noticeable difference, and I fully plan to hit the 1/4 mile Friday night (ran 120mph with the old motor). However, he uses the same dyno for all his builds. That's how I can say its lower than expected |

Talking with Late Model Craft Racing installing long tube headers, high flow cats into their custom Y-pipe running thru a stock resonator and exhaust with their tune, CAI and under drive pulley I can expect 385-400RWHP. An after-market exhaust would gain me another 5-7hp but I don't want a loud truck. So with the mild build you've got and considering it's going thru a 6 speed and the rolling stock is different 430 isn't TERRIBLE. There's a guy that took a stock Denali with a 6.2 L92 and bolted on an LS-9 supercharger, larger injectors, long tubes and kept everything else bone stock and put down almost 500 to the rear wheel. |

WOW Mark.... I don't know what to say... (other then I've been there...)
I would DEFINITELY expect more power then that... I was thinking 475 rwhp or so for your build... Something is definitely not right. I would be looking into the tune first and make sure all of that is right.. Next I would probably do a compression test and make sure everything is where it should be. I know head/cam/Fast Intake LS2s normally make around 450 rwhp..... I would think yours should make no less then that. For me, the LS3 heads/intake is always a shoot.... I have seen comparisons between them and good cathedral port heads/fast intakes and they sometimes are pretty close in power.... Then other times I have seen in the rear world, people slap on an LS3 top end for a budget style build and get less then stellar results.... I'm not sold on them personally...(thats why I stayed with cathedrals).... But lots and lots of people make big power with them so.... I would be calling ERIK and asking him WTF.... Put you some 1 7/8 x 3" headers and 3" x, a good cat back and see what it picks up... I could see gaining 15 rwhp over your current setup once you touch up the tune... Also what was the timing at? We need to figure this out! |

Try 40-45 rwhp and that is optimistic. Still worth doing it though... ![]() |

Mark, i wouldnt change the MS3, it is PLENTY of cam... If you go any bigger it "may" make more PEAK hp but the bottom end power will suffer and with a stick tranny thats no fun... I would do a head swap before a cam swap... A little more money but less work. Or send your LS3s to WCCH for a port job and a ported FAST intake.
If you DO decide to change cams, get a custom cam spec'd for it. You can make more power with LESS cam when its perfectly matched to a combo.. PatG down in Victoria makes 500rwhp in his G8 with a stock bottom end L76 with a ported head/intake combo and his own spec cam...That is through an A6. His previous Trans Am has a stock bottom 346 LS1 with a killer AFR top end/ported FAST and his spec cam, it make 500rwhp as well... I would hit him up for a cam... |

Its funny I just went to the link that Gotbusa posted up and it was a link to PatG.... LOL
![]() Great minds think a like... BTW looking at Pats old TA, he made 508 rwhp with a 238/242* which is VERY close to your MS3.... Only he had a really maximized, well thought out combo... You can get there with your shortblock, just have to spruce up the top end and do some very detailed changes... ![]() |

Thanks. The only thing I didn't like was the dyno number. It feels great to drive, and we're it no for being all drugged up I would be headed to the quarter tonight.
If it feels this good at 430, I can't imagine close to 500 ![]() |

I'll be glad to post dyno sheets after I get the work done. As I said I'm only repeating what I've been told to expect and was shown some dyno charts showing. |

So I popped off one of the valve covers today and went to work with an adjustable pushrod.. Turns out I need 7.350 pushrods. My buddy had the same issue on a build he had, and claimed a 60whp gain after he got the correct length installed.. Parts are on order and more dyno runs are in the works
