Christ I hadn't seen this thread until today. Killer memories. I'll have to show the wife these vids. lol

Back then I used to run rankin, self, and miami subs in a MR2 Turbo with 304 @ the wheels...pretty much until that big bust. I very narrowly escaped that one...although when we were hauling to our cars someone opened their door as a passed and I got a door edge to the right thigh at full speed. much suck.

MAN I remember all of use being so careful with our scanners and radios. The cops really had to be slick to catch us.

Things have certainly changed in the past 10+ years in terms of street racing. I started off around Rankin as well, then Rankin circle on Sunday afternoons, then Airtex until they started leaving on sprinklers which is when it was stop light racing on the feeder going 3 wide from the Airtex light until the road merged into 2 lanes. Then a lot of it changed over to Pinemont, Brittmore, and Hempstead hwy which is were we used to race after school before the scene there got popular.

Always tried to avoid the Westhiemer area when possible as that was always nothing but trouble. Only made a few trips to the East side of town too for the dear park meets and races.

Some of the best racing for me in terms of fun was on the BW8 feeder road between 290 and I-45. Used to just do loops with a group of about 10-15 cars and race from every stop light. Stopped that after wrapping my car around a pole.

Now it's all freeway roll racing these days for those who don't go to a track. Nowhere near the same.

Anyone remember the exact date of the JCI raid and if it was mentioned in the news?

I remember the Kmart raid being in the news but not about the JCI raid. Perhaps because it was only bikes?

I am trying to find a link talking about this, so far I found this:

My small story is here: https://www.motohouston.com/forums/s...d.php?t=378717

The night I went out was that Saturday. The guys telling me not to go to JCI because it was hit the night before, would have been Friday. The famous Kmart bust was wee hours into Sunday, but technically sat night.

That was a long time ago.

So the JCI bust was before the Kmart one? I was there at JCI the night of the bust but I left around 10:30PM.

From what I can remember, yes. I would assume it was late when it happened. Probably about midnight or so. That’s when everything started happening around there anyways.

I just looked up the date, aug 18th 2002, a Sunday, or technically “sat night”. This which meant JCI happened Friday night aug 16th or early sat morning aug 17th depending on the time.

Ole timers to Rankin can remember the cops driving through and telling everyone to leave, the crowd would move to the truck stop at 45/Rankin where McDonalds & Shipleys are now and in an hour we would roll back out there.

Yep. You only got one warning to leave, from the cops. The second time they came through they start writing tickets and towing vehicles.

Goodnight trail and that other spot a few mins down the road behind those warehouses bring back some memories. My 95 mustang took many emblems and hood ornaments out there lol. Back then 700hp and a 2speed was enough to hardly ever loose a race.
