Bone Marrow Biopsies Suck

Had my second one a couple weeks ago. After the first one I decided I'd listen to music during the second (low so I could still hear what the nurses were saying) and was able to snap a pic.

Who else has had them and what was your experience? I've had one at Memorial and now one at MDA. Neither were fun but weren't nearly as bad as what I was expecting after reading so many people talk about them online. MDA was better as they have people that strictly do them all day long.

Why are you having this done for? For Rorie perhaps?

Long story, and no I wish it were for something more commendable like that though. I actually joined the registry about 4 years ago, most people don't realize how many people needing transplants are young children like Rorie.

I had 2 last year. Apparently that gives them a baseline to determine what stage my leukemia has advanced to! Wasn't too bad as far as pain.

I heard they suck. I was going to donate for my mother. They said it would be a miserable procedure. It turns out that she didnt need it.

They will knock you out if you ask but the policy is that they won't do it the first time. Maybe to see how it affects you. Seemed silly but who knows.

I assisted in a few years and years ago. I once "accidently" slapped a donor because she was way to whiney about it. She calmed down after that....but seriously it must have been a subconscious act.. oops...
