Ride with your brights on so you are more visible, and stay 5mph ahead of traffic.

Oh man there is so much I could tell you about the toll roads...
hahaha...anyhow on a serious note, stay out of cars blind spot and like craig says, its a good idea to go a little faster than other traffic. If that speed is uncomfortable for you, you should get some more experience first. |

Also use hand signals as well as your blinkers. If there is a car hauling just move over. Don't get behind 18 wheelers or big trucks. Stuff falls off and you can't see in front of them. Keep your head on a swivel.

It's not so bad, keep your eyes alert, don't look at anything for more than 2 seconds, and don't ride next to anyone unless you are passing, avoid the spontanious merge people do when they realize the lane they are in is "hov" vs. "EZ tag" seen it too many times (if your road even has that.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a 250 on the highway. My bike doesn't weigh a whole lot more than one and I have had zero issues with the bike blowing around or...whatever possible reason they told you it is not good for the highway is. I commute with my bike at least twice a week for about 60 miles round trip highway and have no issue with its light weight.

If you are concerned about it being windy at 60 mph try riding around that speed a bit more so that you can get used to it before you hit the highway. Usually they are around 60 mph and faster as far as speed limits are concerned. You never want to put you and your bike in a situation that you cannot yet handle.

Stay light on the bars. If there is a crosswind from the right, stay to the left side of the lane. That way if a gust hits you have room to roll with it.
I'm not a big fan of bikes that ride with their brights on (I think it blinds drivers more than it helps with visibility). But, to each his own. I wouldn't recommend riding during rush hour until you have a little more highway experience. Commuters are generally . My guide to highway safety: Think about the most stupid thing every car around you could do at any given time and expect them to do it. 1 out of 10 will do it. I did 8000 miles of Houston Highways on a Ninja 250 and I'm no lightweight. It will handle it just fine. |

Any size fully faired bike is affected by crosswinds. You're balanced on two wheels, it doesn't take much. I hit my brights to get a driver's attention, like if I think they're going to pull out, or turn in front of me |
