Saw this article in Jalopnik and thought I'd share:

https://jalopnik.com/5952473/my-sever...n-a-motorcycle

"In the ranks of embarrassing pictures you could have posted on the Internet of yourself, I'm going to guess this one is close to the top. Yeah, that's my , clearly visible through my shredded Y-fronts, rubbed raw and bleeding from sliding down the road. Those undies provided about as much protection as the Levis 511s I was wearing, which is to say none. This happened at around 35 to 40mph."

So, the hippy thinks wearing jeans caused his broken arm?

Sounds like he was going faster than 30-40 mph, but who knows! Obviously wasn't his first wreck either!

The pavement quality is a big factor in roadrash. I hit a curb at 15 mph a few weeks after I started riding and I skinned the out of both knees; there was some nasty bruising to boot. After that I started wearing armor under my jeans.

Definitly...

concrete, asphalt vs chip-seal... would you rather slide across a couple hundred feel of 220 grit, or say....80?

Reading is fundamental...
Quote:
Once I'd stopped sliding, I ran over, picked the bike up, put it on the curb, then went back to see what had caused the low-side. Turns out there was a patch of car safety glass, the kind that turns itself into little marbles when it shatters, all over the middle of the corner

FTFA: The metal from a previous injury caused a stress point which broke his arm. He even mentioned that the impact should not have broken anything. I also fail to see how he is a hippy or anyone that I would listen to as his closing comments state that he will likely wear jeans when riding in the future.

Lets be real and admit everyone will be riding in jeans in the near future as its common practice anyway.

I appreciate the guys attitude, and I agree. It has however convinced me to go ahead and get the shorts and knee/shin guards I was thinking about.

I have impact shorts but I rarely wear them. Always wear knee protection.

I'll keep wearing jeans but I always have a jacket gloves and helmet. Hopefully I never have to experience that but it's always in the back of my mind.
