That makes paying for shipping sound like a better option

How much is your time worth?

To me, $500 would be worth it.

The only reason I drove out there to get mine was timing, and it was really the best option. By the time I flew to ATL and rented a car to go by the bike etc..... Too much hassle.

I even thought about renting a truck and hauling it back from flying.

We took friends and made a road trip out of it, came back through NOLA and made a weekend out of it.

I’m going to take the other tack. 85 mph speed limit, 750 miles at 75 makes it a 10 hour ride.

Man up.

I'd ship it. It's a long drive even in a nice car.

I've got a coworker that goes to El Paso about once a month. It takes about 12but I guess if you really pushed you could shave some off that.

It's a long drive but it's doable and it's all in the situation and how you approach it. If you have the time and a good attitude about a little adventure/road trip, that's a good choice.
If your time is limited and you can afford shipping (which really is likely similar in cost, to driving there) that's a good choice too.

That sucks!

I just drove from Houston to Phoenix to pick up a Triumph Tiger.
I stopped in Deming, NM on the way out and stayed the night in Phoenix after buying and loading the Tiger in my truck. The next morning I headed back home and did all 1140 miles in 16 hours. I didn't find the drive too bad and there seamed to be plenty of fuel stops along the way on I-10.

Just FYI for next time - If you tell them where you are coming from, drive across Texas with a trailer, you pretty much lost a lot of the wiggle room on the price.

It basically tells the seller the asking price was close enough to entice you to come see it AND you have an investment in time that you were willing to risk.

Drop the trailer nearby, go in and negotiate like a local.

Some dealerships have CycleTrader manage their inventory listings and that is never current.
