Gas Prices - What Is The Cheapest -YOU- Can Actually Remember Paying In The USA?

Gas has reached the $4.00 per gallon average in the US. For many of us, that's as high as we've ever paid.

What is the cheapest you can actually remember paying for a gallon of gas? For me, I vaguely remember paying 80-something cents for a gallon of gas in the middle 1980s. I can clearly remember paying 99 cents per gallon in the late 1980s.

I can't remember the cheapest... I know I remember being quite bummed when it reached $1 and thinking I wouldn't be able to survive when it stayed at $1.25 for the entire summer.

it was right around a buck when I started driving back in 96. I remember sitting at a hot dog stand just outside Chicago around 98 and having a chat with my then g/f about gas reaching $1.50 gallon. I told her then it was long overdue for gas prices to keep continuing upwards with the rest of inflation....It appears I was correct.

or when the 5-10 bucks of change you scraped up from around the house would get your around town the entire weekend. I sometimes pull up to pumps and see $5 filled from the last patron....glad I'm not doing that anymore, $5 would get me to work one way!

In HS I remember gas was $1.20 and I would and moan how expensive it was. My mom would only give me a $20 for the week and it was just enough gas for school and back.

Weren't prices higher in the summer of '08?
