R.I.P Garrett Hardy

I don't remember what his screen name was here. But he rode with me a bunch of times on the noob rides and the Katy Cypress rides.

Really sad to read the way he went. I can't imagine what his mother went and is going through.

Do you guys remember him?

I've known Garrett for over 10 years.
RIP, old friend.

Here's a post from our friend, Brad.

Homeboy down. Garrett died this morning.

This sucks, so I'm only going to go over this once. This post is gonna have all the details I know, so don't ask me a bunch of questions about it.

He was riding his bike this morning out in Prairie View with his mom. Both of them were wearing brightly-colored cycling jerseys and helmets. There was no paved shoulder, and they were riding in the right lane. A silver Dodge pickup came over a hill and hit Garrett from behind. His mom said she never even heard the truck.

Garrett's mom is a nurse, and immediately began rescue breaths/CPR in the center turn lane where he landed; one could not hope for a better first responder. Ambulance made the scene pretty quick, Life Flight soon after. He wasn't breathing on his own, but he did have a pulse when he got into the helicopter. I don't know if he died in the helo or if he died at the hospital.

I know the driver of the truck stopped. I don't know if they stuck around for the cops to show up. I know there were a few other people who stopped to render aid.

I went to the accident site myself, and there is ZERO likelihood that the driver of the truck was paying attention. Standing where he got hit, I was able to make eye contact with drivers a solid 10 seconds before they reached me. Garrett died because some had something better to do than not hit him with a truck.

This is everything I know about the situation. If you have any questions, or if there's something I didn't cover, it's because I don't know. When I find out funeral details, I'll let y'all know.

Pour one out, smoke 'em if you got 'em. We lost a good one today.

So many people that I know of friends have known recently who ride motorcycles, yet died from something else.

Crazy.

SO tragic, I cant count on two hands how many people I have seen killed by vehicles while riding bicycles. How hard is it to slow down and pay attention while driving. ....

Dude, seriously.

That is what my current job is now.

4 wheels still think they just own the road and don't need to pay attention to anything other than 4 wheels.

I've been around cycling a long time and it sure seems that since we have had smart phones that I hear about about riders getting hit much more than before.
