What type of surface you slide on can affect how long the denim lasts. I had a student once who slid on their thick wallet and saved their .

Guess it depends on the jeans.
I dunno WHAT happened to that guy at 35mph but they've been sufficient for me. I've read that new jeans rip very easy on asphalt. Of course I would prefer leather though. |

I learned my lesson, kinda.
I always wear my riding boots now, and I'm looking into purchasing some more riding jeans. My left foot/ankle - The worst pain I've ever experienced. It's all a scar now, and I still have pain where the chunk of my left ankle was missing. |

Back in the day when I was in college there was no street gear besides a helmet and gloves. I had one crash then but luckily for me it was minor. |

This.
I got the knee/shin gaurds thinking I would use them just for winter/cool days. Then last spring I just never quit wearing them... daily through the heat of summer. They really aren't bad once you get accustomed to them. And , for less than $30, cheap insurance. As a commuter, I couldn't afford riding jeans.... not a pair for every day of the week, and how often I'd wear them out. I do have 2 pair, just not an every ride kinda thing. |

official thread ender.

never had a problem with jeans, and a falling. I can say the last accident I had, the jeans did wear through at the kneecap on one leg. But I also consider that the knee/shinpads I had on underneath contributed to that. (and saved dem knees!
