Heidenau K60 Scout on my DR650

I wasn't sure where to post this, but figured this made sense to post under this section.

I was headed to the Hill Country this past weekend and my DR650 needed new tires on a short notice. After calling around to local shops and asking for 80/20 tires, I found no one had anything like the old Avon Distanzias I used to like to run. I needed street focused since it was a tarmac focused ride.

One shop had tires that would fit (that weren't Trailwings) and those were the Heidenau K60 Scouts. Guy selling them told me they were 50/50 but handled road use just fine.

I rode from Cedar Park to Bandera via I35 and 46/16 since I was in a hurry and it was dark. Tires were fine @ 80 plus MPH with no issues.

Saturday, it was wet and overcast. I led the group out towards Leakey and the Three Sisters. I slowly started to push the tires on the wet a bit and they felt great. We eventually found sunny skies. I pushed harder and the tires handled the fairly aggressive pace (65-85 along the 33X roads). No issues, great traction and the tires inspired confidence. The pace wasn't insane but it was fast enough to be entertaining for all four of us. Other bikes on the ride were a WeeStrom, Triumph Tiger 1050, and an R1.

Sunday was a ride back via back roads and single lanes to Cedar Park, the roads were damp from recent rains, but the tires took it all very well.

If you need a great dual sport tire, I highly recommend these for your DR650/KLR650 or similar bike. 130/17 rear 90/21 front.

K60's wear like steel, you will double or triple Distanzia mileage. Just keep alert riding in the rain as they wear, known to hydroplane earlier than most tires.

What are 33X roads?

Will do, thanks for the heads up.. Fresh, they were great in rain and wet roads, but I will keep that in mind as they wear down.

We hit the usual roads for our ride Saturday.

From Bandera, 16 towards Kerrville, to Medina, then 337 to Vanderpool, Leakey, Camp Wood, then 55 to 335, 41 to 336 back to Leakey, then 337 back to Vanderpool, then left on 187, to 39 to Hunt, then Kerrville. Finally, 16 back to Bandera.

Just the usual.

Sunday, it was back roads from Bandera, through Comfort, Centerpoint, Kendalia, etc. to Blanco for breakfast. Then back roads winding my way back to Lakeway to Lime Creek Road, to Cedar Park.

Thanks for the invite!!

I used K60s on my 1190 Adventure from Houston to Big Bend. Day 1 was through the sisters, loaded down with a week of camping gear. Pushed pretty hard on loaded down 550# behemoths in the twistys with great confidence. Aftter a week of riding on and off road the only wear I had was from the rocks and gravel in big bend.

Sorry for the oversight on an invite. I wasn't sure I'd make it back in time.

I'll include you next go around
