SARASOTA COUNTY — A 30-year-old Sarasota man was arrested at the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and charged with a road rage incident that left a motorcyclist with broken ribs.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Magdiel Medrano-Bonilla, 30, is the man seen in a viral video driving a Mazda 3 hatchback that swerved into a sports bike rider, causing him to crash.

Darin Hendrickson, 33, of Sarasota suffered broken ribs, cuts and road rash as a result of the collision.

Medrano-Bonilla did not stop after the crash, but a family who witnessed dispute for about a mile, recorded a cell phone video of the incident.

Medrano-Bonilla has been charged with aggravated battery causing injury and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license. A bail of $10,000 was set for driving without a license, but a judge did not set bail for the battery charge.

He remains in custody at the Sarasota County jail.

He should be charged with attempted murder. The article says he is also here illegally as well, so he should certainly be deported after he gets out of jail.

Yup, they updated the linked story:
Quote:
In a news conference on Wednesday morning, Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight said Medrano-Bonilla was found the next day, trying to destroy the vehicle. Knight said Hendrickson was lucky to be alive after the crash.

Medrano-Bonilla was arrested and charged with aggravated battery causing harm and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.

Deputies responded at about 5 p.m. on Sunday to a reported crash on Beneva Road near Riviera Drive. They found a damaged 2008 GSRX 1000 Suzuki sports bike and a rider with injuries.

Hendrickson said the dispute started when the man pelted him with change that caused damage to his motorcycle. He said he made hand gestures seen in the video to get the driver to stop and exchange information.

“I was in absolutely shock,” Hendrickson told the Herald-Tribune on Monday. “My son started flashing through my mind. I thought I can’t die right now.”

He pleaded with the family to follow the car that struck him, but they had a child in the backseat and would not chase the car.

Knight said Medrano-Bonilla is in the country illegally and is not wanted in Sarasota County. He said he hoped a new cooperation with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency will lead to Medrano-Bonilla being returned to his country of origin, El Salvador.

This is all a misunderstanding, in El Salvador pelting someone with change is a sign of respect and admiration. When the signs weren't returned it obviously enraged the driver enough to fender check him.

No, he is correct - Democrats do want that.

Only a liberal Democrat or someone from, say, California or maybe Austin, would take offence at Bill's astute observation.

Oh, wait... never mind.

We're not talking about illegal immigrants in general. We are taking about convicted violent felon illegal immigrants. Don't move the goalpost

Your verbiage was "bill's astute observation". That smacks of a bit of sarcasm, don't you think?

You originally made the claim to me that "democrats want that". You are wrong -- democrats do not want for illegal immigrants who are convicted of violent felonies to be housed in government housing and be given food stamps in lieu of prison or deportation. That was bill's claim, that's the statement that I responded to with "nobody wants that" (because they don't), and that's the one that you responded to with "democrats do want that". Now you are trying to tell me that you are actually a discussion that is not actually happening, which is what democrats want to do with illegal immigrants in general. If you wanna talk about that, you go right ahead. Just know that's not what bill mentioned and that's not the subject I responded to.

Edit: I'm also not from Austin, FWIW

California?

I guess your location tag is just a wish to be in Austin?

Triggered much?

Illegal is illegal.

No further discussion needed.
