Google Home sending 100ks of packets to servers

Google home flooding and crashing home routers....

Why would anyone be surprised that google (google home) is sending back hundreds of thousands of data packets back to their servers. Spying on EVERYTHING. Smh.

...TP-Link explains that the issue is caused by the Cast feature, which allows your phone, Google Home speakers and Chromecast devices to communicate. This feature "sends an MDNS multicast discovery packets to discover and keep a live connection with Google products such as Google Home," says TP-Link. Normally, the packets are sent out in 20-second intervals. Following a recent firmware update, for some unexplained reason, when exiting a sleep state, the devices would sometimes send an excessive number of packets (exceeding 100,000, in some cases) to the router, causing it to crash...

We received an Alexa as a Xmas present.

Im highly against it. But as is normally the case, my opinion doesnt matter.

Now that little controls the cameras, thermostats, TV, and alarm system.

Im being phased out of my own house.

And now this is has the potential to crash my internet and spy on me?

If you think this means that it's spying on you then you have absolutely no idea how it works. , it doesn't even need to listen to you to know everything about you.

Hmmmm. I use Chromecast on my outdoor patio tv. Anyone that works at Google knows I watch outside where my neighbors can see. How embarrassing.

Spying means gathering and storing information. And, yeah, I do know just a little about IT.

Then you know that it only collects data after you address it. Which is the data you are literally asking it to collect.

The vast majority of people have no idea how much data google collects across all their products including google home. Nor do they understand the analysis google performs on that data, how it is used and sold. Simplifying it by getting people to appreciate that google is overwhelming and crashing routers due to data volumes helps to lift the curtain on what is really happening.
