opinions on the Tenere 700?
I currently ride a 2017 Africa Twin. I like the bike, comfortable, tons of power...but I have not ridden further than Austin in like 2 years.
The new T700 is getting lots of love, has anyone bought one or test drove one? |

i think this is a good next bike for me. i'm just waiting on the used market for the t7 to appear. i have time, i can wait, i have other bikes to enjoy at the moment. i never buy bikes from dealerships. although i'm excited about the adv/dual riding style because it is totally new to me.

there are already a ton of aftermarket parts for this bike which is amazing. it tells you how popular this bike is.

Never rode one, but it seems like a great bike. I just can't justify 80/20 tires and a 21" skinny front wheel in the Houston area. Outside of SHNF, there really aren't many places you can put that to use very well. My Tiger Roadie will run the gravel roads faster than I would want to.

I have an MT-07 and that CP twin engine is sweet!
Ever since I got it, I've said if they made an adventure bike with that engine it would be great! |

I love my T7. Its a very fun bike to ride. Handles well on tarmac and off road. Single track riding at the SHNF was okay..not as fun as on my ktm 450.
It tops out right around 120mph..so pretty slow compared to a sportbike.. but even at that speed with 21" front and 18" rear its super stable. |

Have not ridden the AT but it looks pretty big compared to my T7. I'm in Cypress if you want to check it out.

I test rode over thirty bikes including the T700 trying to decide what to get to replace my Bolt. I learned from riding it and the Mt07/mt09 that a triple cylinder was at the top of my desired features list along with all day comfort, go anywhere suspension and a massive fuel tank. The only problem with this bike is that the new tiger 900 is much better than the Yamaha it is not even close. If you plan on getting one don't test ride a Tiger 900.

You get to ride it off road?
It has 20 hp more than the t7..but same top speed. Its a little heavier too. Ktm 890 would probably be better if you want more power. |

There are several other choices that have more power or are lighter, I just found that the actual triple is far more entertaining than the "fake" triple (two cylinder crossplane / off set firing order or w/e)". I also found that the strange and snatchy throttle issue on the tracer 900 was NOT present in the 700.
My test rides lead me to conclude I wanted a "real" triple but I was not willing to put up with the bizarre tracer 900 throttle maps/modes. The tiger 900 has a crazy engine, big gas tank and great suspension. In addition to checking off everything on paper, it was the second most fun bike out of everything I rode. Basically the 700's was not enough and the 1200s (tiger/ktm/GS) are unmanageable land whales. A close runner up is the 850 GS . The most fun was definitely the Mutlistrada ...but I don't have $27k to drop on a motorcycle. The Mutlistrada has so much power it was unclear if the engine was pushing the bike forward or if it was actually moving the earth to be farther behind me. If you are ok with the 700 engine the little vstrom seemed like a much more solidly built than the Yamaha t700 vehicle if you plan on brutal off roading. |

i like the t7 alot. i rather save the money than buying a eurobike and upgrade the t7 suspension later on if i want to. the t7 is a great base platform at a valued price. if i were to go to patagonia with a adv bike the best bike for me would have to be the t7. i don't trust eurobike reliability.

The motor has a great rep for reliability. Seems to be doing well in flat track "production twin". I remember when I reconciled all the promo vids with pros tossing 450lb plus bikes around, jumping all kinds of obstacles, etc., with my attempts at trail riding my 690ER. Tree trunks I would have hit on a dirt bike, had me looking for ride arounds, or turning around. Fool me once...doubtful I'll ever plan to take anything bigger than my KTM500 off road..."Off road" and "off pavement are 2 different things. Gravel/dirt roads are still roads...
