First Aid and CPR certification

After reading about the rider down today and some of the posts, it got me thinking. I was certified for years for CPR and First Aid, but it has been so long since I have practiced that, had I been on that ride I would likely have been next to useless in helping the fallen rider

I personally think that it would be a good idea if there was at least one, preferably experienced, rider in each group ride that was currently certified for CPR and First Aid for when the inevitable happens, for whatever reason. I was wondering if we could get something going to encourage as many group riders into this as possible, it just might save life and/or limbs. Here are some links to local classes. I just might try to do this this coming week but would like to be one among many. Post up if your interested.

https://www.ps-med.com/training/

https://www.icpri.com/?gclid=CKWL15L7s6gCFaRl7AodW2vSCw

https://www.texascpr.com/

, this link just gave me a better idea. If we could get a member or two (maybe we already have that?), to become a Red Cross Instructor we could have M&Gs to help certify other members here

Sounds like a plan. I am hoping we can get a member certified as an instructor though. I'm going to look into the requirements.

I am CPR/First Aid/AED/ECA Certified.

My wife just got CPR as well. Be good to have a big private class...I can see if the instructor that did hers can do a group from MH

Its a great idea...but....rt now you guys are protected under the "Good Samaratin Law". (sp?) and if anything were to go wrong against the patient you would not be held liable. Also, not to burst anyone bubble, but CPR is pretty much useless in a Tramatic Cardiac Arrest.

Just remember bad cpr is better than no cpr. Its all about compressions anyways.

There is a class starting at Lonestar College for CERT (civilian emergency responder training). It is several weeks long, covers everything from triage, fighting fires to nuclear attacks. If you are interested PM me.

First aid part sure.. But not to or be negative, CPR on a broken bone or fracture incident.. not so much. Now, if they have a cardiac arrest, stop breathing and passout while riding, not riding etc... CPR would be it.. But mind you they don't teach you that in CPR, you pump the heart... if you slash a major blood vessel, and you pump the heart.. you speed up death. but the first aid part for sure because they teach you ways to stop bleeding, pull people out of danger while keeping the next stationary, ways to splint, etc.. I did go through a Life Flight class which demonstrated taking off the helmet without moving the neck.. I could ask the Life Flight supervisors if they would be interested in holding a seminar or so regarding first aid and first on the scene type of things..

just go take the class at a college or private instruction place, the fees to teach CPR are outrageous. I was an AHA Instructor Trainer for years till they put the new system in place and the matriculation fee went to about 200 or 300 a year. stopped cause I didn't make that much teaching CPR or First Aid.

I am an EMT as well as AHA BLS/Heartsaver CPR instructor. If there is enough interest I can hold classes. I need min 12 people and 2 weeks notice. Cost is $50 per person and has to be paid upon arrival to the class. PM me if you have questions.
