Fuel injection
Looking at getting a dirtbike soon and I'm wondering if fuel injection is worth it. I won't be racing or competing at all. I would want a fuel injected bike for easier starts and not having to deal with carb maintenance. Are the first gen fuel injection systems reliable?

I have a 2011 KTM 350sxf with fuel injection and love it. Highly recommend getting it. I don't race or compete at all, just joy ride in the SHNF, power delivery is smooth and responsive and so far no messing with it at all.

I would love a ktm 350 but they are far too expensive for me right now. Got my eye on a 2009 crf450r.

I have an 08' WR250X. Reliable as a brick. Can sit for six months and fire off like you rode it yesterday. Also, it's FI allows you to very simply remap fuel delivery via adjustment of lean / rich by CO2 level with button presses on the dash if you add a pipe, take out the snorkel, etc... And it runs perfect at every elevation. And it never fails to start. And with 30,000 miles on the motor with only one valve adjustment and semi regular 1 qt oil changes its a no brainer. I love that bike.
Every carbed dirtbike in my garage has an issue at least once a year from sitting, ethanol, or in the carb. FI rules. No contest. but I have no experience with it on 450's. |

FI all the way.
Today's fuel plays with carbed bikes when they sit up. |

I have a FI 2011 yz450f. You are welcome to come try it out next time I hit up Rio Bravo. Having owned both carb and FI yz450's I love the Fi. It is so crisp that it was a little scary at first. Now I would not trade it for the world. I still have a card 2t that I love but it is a different bike altogether.
