So many others I would choose before the corvette. A corvette just screams middle aged guy going through a mid life crisis and thinks a corvette will make his work again. I like the essence of the corvette but I wouldn't buy one just because everybody else has one. If I'm buying a car, nobody else is going to have one like mine.

I would have to agree with you for older bette4 but not the c7. It's a bad car. It beat the 911 at Laguna. And it looks good i think and unlike most vettes the interior is great looking to and on a one last note i am middle aged

And I think of folks that bash the Corvette as missing the point of a sports car completely - first you have to have one before you can enjoy one

I have had a C5 Z06 since 2002, it is far from stock now and having bought it when I was 34 I have seen and heard sour pusses spew this same "middle aged losers with gold chains" nonsense since then.

Well - guess what the car (top model Vette) has always been a top performer that runs tire to tire with and often beats rest of the worlds top sports cars of the same generation for a fraction of the price.

The price is important.

So while you and every other opinionated Corvette hater has been ragging on the Corvette, regular guys and girls such as myself have been buying them and enjoying real sports car thrills for a fraction of the cost and added practicality that the dreamers never get to as they don't have the money to spend on their "premium" dream cars or they lack the practicality to even justify buying a Atom or similar when they have a young family to support.

You will be sorely disappointed to know how many actual middle aged folks buy the "other" sports cars - they are middle aged because they have had to wait until they are in their 50's or 60's before they can afford a P-car or F-car or M-car....

I am glad I did not wait until then - in the mean time I have enjoyed 120,000 miles of leisure driving in a sports car, have shared it with my daughter as she grew up (something you don't get to do when you 60 and your kid is 30) and because of this she has an appreciation for performance cars and the idea of leisure car toy.

In 2002 my 2001 C5 Z06 in stock form would run tire to tire with the Viper ACR, 911 GT3 and 911 Turbo as well as the Ferrari 360 CS and the Ford Mustang Cobra R.

Each Corvette of the day has been right there with the competition.

People just always and moan about the interior. What a laugh - you ever seen the interior of a 2001 911?

You're forgetting the lotus only weighs 2000 pounds. My next car will be a lotus exige and an Ariel nomad. I like unique cars. I do like the corvette, but they are just too common. I wouldn't mind ripping the engine out of one for a sand rail.

Who me?

I have driven a C7Z in stock and modded form. Nice car, kicks just about every other car out there square in the nuts. I just don't want to drop $100K on a sports car these days

See, I had my sports car fix over the last 16 years. We drag the C5Z07 out every now and again for a thrash through the country side - its been an MTI Z07 since 2007 with one of the first modded LS7 transplants into a C5Z that was done.

The first version of the LS7 was a 600rwhp normally aspirated monster,

...and has been rebuilt a couple times since, each time milder with power lower don the curve to bring the fun down from 7000rpm at 175mph to 6200rpm @ 140mph

When your 6 year old is as excited as you are about getting new tires for your car you know you are living the good life

When you and your kid are out there enjoying the drive-in on a Friday night after going door to door with a raucous '69 Camaro you are making memories.

16 years later we are still satisfied with our car

Yeah - $70K to buy in, and another $10 - $15K+ to fix GMs poor cooling and tune and pulley.

Then the extra seasonal tires, because a) you are not going to drive with anything other than SC2+'s and b) you are going to need fresh rubber every year to keep the rubber side down

For me its go big or go home LOL

I am not saying the C7Z07 is not a fantastic car, it is - and anyone that can afford one should jump on it and drive the out of it for the next 10+ years and have a ball in it - take your kids in it, your spouse, anyone you can. Go to track days, take cross country trips.

, I once drove my car to the start of the Tire Rack One Lap on a whim, just to wish the St Jude's Cancer Corvette a good race and get a photo of my car with the owners of the race car.

Took me a six pack of large Redbulls and 10 hours flat including stops to get from Houston to South Bend Indiana and make it in time for the 7am start.

Personally I am not into squandering another small fortune on a newer car platform. Bikes are where its at for me now LOL
