Naked liter bike search

Howdy all -

Looking to get a new-to-me bike. I've had a GSXR1000 since it was new in 2006.

The used bikes in my price range have certainly come a long way since I was last buying. However, at this point, I think I am going to step away from the pure super sport machines.

I am looking at naked liter bikes now.
REALLY diggin the KTM 1290 Super Duke and the Suzuki GSX-S1000.

I know Honda and Kawasaki's naked 1000s are fine, as well, but if I'm honest the styling just doesn't do much for me (except the H2, which is out of my price range).

So, what are your thoughts on naked 1000s and specifically the KTM and Suzuki?

(Also, probably going to be working to off-load my GSXR1000 soon. It's not a gem, and hasnt run for a couple years at this point. Ran strong when parked. Same the the KTM 250SXF I have).

Obviously you’ve left out the ultimate naked bike...lol

It may not look like a naked but it is cause it has handlebars.

My favorite one is a Tuono, but I could not justify that much money for one so I got FZ10/MT10. Really good bike and sounds amazing. I got my used with about 5k miles for about 9k in 2018 which was an excellent buy. I am not dissapointed with that purchase. The bike already came with some mods including a seat and small windscreen. Since then added M4 exhaust and a quickshifter.

How's the maintenance on an Ape? I know the KTMs have come a long way in that department. Not in the same class as Ducati anymore, maintenance wise. I have always had an affinity for Aprilia.

I do tend to forget about Yamaha for some reason. Ill keep them in the search.

I am a bit lazy with mods since I have all sorts of other stuff I like to spend money on, including bikes. So, a nice used bike with some mods/upgrades is appealing.

I think there was one for sale in the classifieds already modded out. It had an ugly luggage rack on it (may be functional, but ugly)

Knock on wood i have had no issues with mine and i have 21K miles on it. Valve checks are due every 12K and it’s a must that you check them. My first Valve check needed no adjustment. The 2nd needed 2 valves adjusted. AF1 in Austin is the only dealer i trust to work on Aprilias. The last adjustment cost was around $900 so save some money. You’re welcome to test ride mine if you’re interested.

Good info, thanks dude.
I'm in Kerrville, so that test ride would be tough, but I certainly do appreciate it. On the other hand, I am relatively close to AF1.
Apes will be added to the search list!

I've always wanted to try an SDR 1290, the GSX-S was surprisingly good and rode very well, its just an ugly bike. I personally didn't like how a tuono rode, its literally an RSV4 without fairings and handlebars installed. it was way too twitchy and sport-oriented. I absolutely loved the Ducati monster 1200 S, I also rode a Triumph speed triple R which was also great but a little down on power for my likings and the slightest amount of throttle input would launch the bike forward, it has a flat torque curve and max torque is everywhere even right off idle. it also has a very low rev limiter which leaves you wanting more. I recently rode the new katana 1000 and I'd rather have the GSX-S

Good stuff, thanks for the input.
I havent put Triumph on the list for the reasons above. Ive heard them elsewhere, too.

If you have the money - Tuono or Super Duke

If not, FZ-10/MT-10. Hands down.

The Super Duke is reeeeeeeeally clicking with me. I have a budget of around $9k-$10k. Ive seen some good looking, low mileage, late model Super Duke's in that range, so super tempting.

I just have to clear out the GSXR and dirtbike before I buy.
