blown up? What happened to it?

The Aprilia's are nice, and from what I hear they are the fastest motard out there (unless you do major motor work). Didn't know about the valve check with them, that would make life difficult since they are high maintenance bikes (not that a KTM/CRF/YZF isn't). Talking to a few owners of them, if they are not properly set up by the dealer and derestricted, they do not run nearly as well. Also, I am sure you are aware, but some of the early motors had problems with the case sealant (orange). There are a couple of bikes on SMJ that are pretty good deals.

I would keep the KTM if it were me, but then again you do have two of them! Sell me that 560 cheap and get and Aprilia

From what I've seen the Ape's are the dog's danglies... when they're running.

They're fast as , but they're hand grenades.

I've ridden a SVX450 and I have KTM 450 SMR. I wasn't that impressed with the Ape, although I wanted to be. My buddy that has the 450 also has a KTM450EXC motard and he prefers the KTM.

If you are interested in a Ape 450, he may want to sell his. At least he was talking about selling it a while back. Check out the AF1 site for info on the SVX's. The 550 used to go boom a lot, but I think that may have been addressed in later models. The 450's didn't have the same issues and are similiar in performance.

Greg,
I rode Larry's Aprilia at MSRH and really enjoyed it. The only thing stopping me is the horrendous reputation for reliability. They seem to go through a lot of motors.

Here is a link to the AF1 Aprilia forum to get an idea of what I'm talking about...

an idea ive been researching alot is taking the new twin valve motors and converting a ktm 505

im like a kid that likes changing his toys around ... one day ill be fast and like 1 thing

pffft like jodys fast ... never looked into one of those huskys yet but i always hear good things about them

The Husky 510 is the bike to have. It is a race bike, the 610 is the street bike (similar to KTM SMC's).

The Ape is a sweet bike. The 08's have the motor problem fixed, so if you do go for the Ape, look for an 08+. With the 07, not all had the motor problem, but it is kind of a roll of the dice if you will get one with it or not.

The Aprilia 450's are comparable to any other 450 class bike, but the 550's are the bike to have. I am not sure how the Aprilia 550 and the KTM 560 compare, but the 550 will own any 450 class bike without engine modification. Guess the old saying is true, there is no replacement for displacement.

Aprilla - Only worth it if your getting the 09 or after...

Husky - my team mate has a 510 and has nothing but positive stuff to say...

KTM - 450 is what I have and unforuantely can't find the time to ride it at all between the R6 and minis... mine's probably going to be up for sale soon...

I'd say keep your Katooms...

Not all the 08's were fixed. My second motor was an 08, the one that blew a head gasket after 700 miles....

On SMJ there is a dyno graph from a guy that has a 510 and a 550, same dyno same chart. The curves are almost identical, until the 510 drops of around 50 hp, the 550 keep climbing. Torque is a similar story.

I hear the Husky is a better handling motard. There is a triple clamp for the 550 that is supposed to do wonders if you get serious.

After all the I went through with my 550 I still want another one.
