Air cooled ain't a thing to worry about unless you are stuck in traffic bouncing it off the limiter. Price out how much it is in total to get it road worthy again, then figure on if it is worth it.

Katanas are great bikes. theyre tanks: theyre very tough, reliable, and heavy. they are NOT super sports. but over all a good bike. this one, however.....just walk away.

As for selling, we posted mine up on craigslist ask week and at 16k miles, an 00 we had 12 responses when asking 2800. And I disclosed the damage on it and everything.

Again, it was purpose-built. Im reminded just how poor most sportbike riders ride their bikes when mine hangs or passes them on the corners. Dont bash it till you've tried it. A supersport doesn't make the rider super, only a poser

most of the people that are knocking it can't even use a katana to it's full potential yet less the latest and greatest they are riding now.

it's heavy blah blah blah suspension sucks blah blah blah and can get whipped by one on their gsxr1000 by a halway decent rider

at that.

you might look for bandits as well, if you like naked bikes. very similar to the katanas (mechanically speaking, air/oil cooled, etc.), and even the 1200s can be had easily for $2500 or less.

+1 for a good bike. Stout motor, handles fine. My first bike, I think it was a 99. It gives just a taste of a super sport but not quite. Plenty fast to kill yourself. Id wait for something else if you want a supersport.

I always thought that the GSXR's were the response to the popularity of the GSX-F's (Katanas) They used to be the hot bikes of the 80's?

The air cooled GSX family, of which the Katana was a member, gave way to the equally revolutionary oil-cooled GSX-R series in 1985.

i always understood that the GSXR was strictly a race replica made available to the public and had nothing to do with the popularity of the katana, but i could be wrong. the original katana was ugly as , lol, and a naked bike.

The 1982 Katana 1100 like pictured was considered a futuristic design in it's day. These bikes are rare and extremely sought after.
