Can you take a sealed motorcycle battery on an airplane?

My dad needs a new battery for his BMW and I am flying out tomorrow morning. I thought about bringing him one so I can ride around...i mean so he can ride around.

Anyone know if I am allowed to carry a sealed maintenance free battery on an airplane?

I dunno man, whether or not it is permitted may be the case, but I would be willing to bet money if you bring it carry on you will at least get detained for a bit, and if it's in your luggage chances are they will dig through your at the minimum.

Wonder what a big battery looks like on xray?

yeah I work with shipping using airplanes, batteries like that would be considered hazardous material to go on an airplane. You would have to go through a lot of work to package it up and get MSDS sheets and it would have to be in the cargo area of the plane. If you get caught trying to sneek it abord the FAA can fine you up to 500,000 for knowingly bringing hazardous material aboard and aircraft

Anyone will take it on a plane, but it has to package properly with all the paperwork of whats inside and has to be labeled corrosive. If you dont and sneak it on and get caught be prepared to take it in the from the feds
