Calling all riders with slicks on there Dirt Bikes

There is going to be a supermoto race in Georgia the weekend of June 27th that is going to be great for any riders that want to try there hand in supermoto but has been leary of riding in the dirt. The dirt secton at this track is going to be paved!! All you CMRA racers I know that the big fast tracks that we race are fun but come and give a tight track a try where you can really back it in and slide around...It is a blast!
Here is a link to the website www.flsupermoto.com
Let me know if anyone is interested in going. Or hopefully see you at the races!!

I would race but that stuff cost money.
When you ride on the dirt do you need to have tires with tread?

Cut slicks or OTR supermoto tires are all you need.

Sorry all...The race is July 26 not in June.
We have found that grooving your tire does very little (if any) in the dirt. I have raced all AMA rounds this year with straight slicks and we have had some narley dirt sections. Not to worry though at this race in Georgia there will not be any dirt at all!

Have any pics? I googled and did not come up with anything but a tire grover.
I guess i will learn to use the slicks. They suck in the turns and would be nice to have a little more traction trying to get over some doubles. I have only rode it at the dirt track once though. I am going to make it out to Ultimate on Sunday and see what happens.

Your tire guy can cut your slicks in minutes to just about any tread pattern you want. For pure dirt, like Ultimate, you're always gonna be wishing you had some knobbies, though. Cuts are only for serious hardpack, pavement and rain.

Michelin OTR sumo tires look like this, while other brands are slicks needing cut:

The photos that you found were from last weeks race. There are no photos of the paved jumps that I have found but I have spoken to the promoter Larry Wolfe and assures me that the dirt section will be all pavment. You can get his info from the website and shoot him an email and he will be glad to answer any questions.

Thats how it is, you just learn to maintain as much speed in the dirt as possible and do not wack the throttle or grab too much front brakes..I am hard on the rear brakes and light on the front in the dirt.
You really do not need grooved tires but Bridgestone does sell the best pregrooved tires on the market. Get with John Hutchinson and he can hook you up.

FYI, Bridgestone makes a Precut Supermoto tire. 125 x 16.5" front & 120 x 17" fronts, and 165 x 17" rears

I think OSB has a supermoto series running this year. Not sure on any of the details, other than I saw it on there schedule early this year.

We do need something local for supermoto, or at least more motard specific days at the track.

well. let the Trackday owners and Race Organizations know how u feel and that might just happen. i personally think the 1.3 mile track at cresson has major potential for a mini/motard day just like the one they had at oak hill this past weekend. not quite sure if thats what the CMRA is going to do on the Sept. 5-6 weekend or not, but this is how i pitched the idea to Macman last year:

SAT: practice / Big Bike Endurance on (1.7 mi. course)
practice / mini endurance on (1.3 mi. course) CMRA/TMGP crossover
Open Practice on both tracks in the afternoon after endurance races are over

SUN: CMRA Big Bike Sprints on (1.7)
CMRA/TMGP mini sprints on (1.3)
CMRA motard races on (1.3)

since the facility has 2 tracks, u can run minis/motards on the 1.3 mi. course and the big bikes on the 1.7 mi. course.

Jody's right and I can attest that he's been pushing for this stuff as has Mike Ingle over the past few years.

If there is enough interest we'll definitly do this, but when we've done it in the past it hasn't panned out. With Motard specific days where we've had a "motards only" group, there is a lot of chatter but never enough folks actually show up.

Email Steve@lstd.com and let him know of your interest in having motard only groups, we're open to trying again- the door's not closed.
