Colin Edwards Interview

http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/news...edwards-tells/

Quote:
Colin Edwards has to be one of our favorite motorcycle racers, primarily for the epic races he would put on for us while racing in the World Superbike Championship against Troy Bayliss. Since his move to MotoGP, Edwards has been less of a talking point for his racing prowess, and instead usually for controversies associated with him.

First it was the Aprilia RS3 ďCubeĒ that had a propensity to catch on fire. Then, it was playing second fiddle to Valentino Rossi. And lately, it has been the Tech3 antics between himself and James Toseland.

Love him, hate him, discount him, but Colin always has one consistency: telling things exactly the way he sees them. In a recent interview with Riders (an Italian Magazine) Colin did just that.

Edwards fielded some colorful questions about , his favorite starts, as well as some political topics like gay marriage, and gun control. We didnít think you wanted to hear any of that though. Continue reading after the jump for some of the more calmer questions, and Colinís to the point answers.

Guido Meda (Italyís MotoGP commentator) accused you of being pretty accomodating when Valentino passes you, do you confirm this?

Thatís right. Itís something that I picked up when we were teammates. Everyone at Yamaha knew Ė me, the team and Valentino what was my position was. If I saw Valentino passing me I let him do it and if I was behind him and wanted to pass, Iíd do it but kept it clean.

And your team-mate James Toseland?

Heís an .

Excuse me?

Heís an and his crew chief is an . Last year he was mine, then they got together without telling me anything. The crew chief that I have now is really good, but they shouldnít have acted that way. If they wanted to work together, we should have sat around a table and discussed it. Instead they did everything behind my back.

You had a wall put up in your garage just like Rossi and Lorenzo.

Yes, because in races like Qatar and Japan we worked all weekend and then Sunday morning they copied my settings. !

Youíve raced against the greatest in the world. Bayliss, Fogarty, Valentino Ö Who was the best?

Valentino is a , the greatest of all times. Bayliss is the one I had the most fun with.

Are you going to stay in MotoGP or go back to SBK or are you thinking of retiring?

I donít know, Iím feeling good now and I feel like Iím eighteen years old.

Ben Spies is in Superbike. Heís really amazed everyone.

Heís a good guy, talented and very determined. Heís got a good head on his shoulders. We go camping together or motorcycling together in the woods, heís a fun guy.

Do you think heíll switch to MotoGP next year?

If I know him heíll try to win the SBK Championship before moving to MotoGP.

What are you going to do when you retire?

Iím going to candidate myself for the Presidency.

Youíre on your third beer, while all the riders say they donít drink or smoke Ö

I drink, but I donít smoke. No drugs, pills or coke. When I was going to school I tried marijuana. Alcohol is the biggest drug and maybe the worse.

Are you going to be jealous about the guys who are going to date your daughter? (Gracie is six years old)

Iíve got a million guns and everytime sheís going to go out with a boy, heís not going to wait outside for her, heís going to come into the house and when he comes in heís going to find me cleaning a gun. Heís got to know that if touches her, Iím going to kill him. Simple. Infact my favourite character is Jesus in the Great Lebowski who says ďNobody ****s with the JesusĒ.

And you donít fool around with Jesus.

Yeah, nobody ****s with Colin

[/B]
I know its was a couple days ago, but I just ran across it and found it pretty interesting and funny.

What in the F@ck are you talking about?

Colin has done exactly what Yamaha has told him to do - every step of the way. From (go out and TRY to win)... to (go out and block/defend Rossi).. several times he's finished right behind Rossi ensuring the trophy goes to the Yamaha garage.

I guess you think Pedrosa and Hayden were a better duo eh?

FYI - he's not a high salary paid rider either, and has been pretty good to Yamaha. Not many riders like playing the "B" bike/rider role....

so you guys tell me what he has done in motogp

Bike number 5
Championships 0
Race starts 103
Wins 0
Podium finishes 10
Pole positions 3
Fastest laps 3
Points 816
2009 championship position 6th

I would of stuck with world super bike... why win two championships there and go up and not even win a race in 103 tries....

Yeah, you're right, but it seems like he has something to prove judging from his interviews. I guess the natural progression once you've done WSBK is MotoGP. It would suck to go back after not being able to amount to the success you thought you could do. I still believe in him, and this season he looks like a contender.

well, when you consistantly finish top 7 week after week, and you are racing twenty something of the fastest riders in the WORLD, you are a baddass, no matter.
when he was rossi's team mate, he did his job as blocker quite well. at that time, it wasn't his job to win races, it was his job to make sure rossi won!

Wow, that's a messed up thing to say.
How about showing a little respect dude?
Colin may have had his ups and downs in motogp, but he has always been a significant figure in the series and is loved not only by the fans, but also by Yamaha.

100% agree.

And unlike Honda... Yamaha takes good care of its riders... Nobody in the Yamaha paddock will "kick Colin out" just to make room for the rookies.

Besides he's probably only got another 2 years left at max... same goes for Rossi... (who will probably end up in Ducati camp or F1).. So Spies will get his way with one of their spots (I hope)...

facts dont lie.. im not picking a fight and he was basically the poster child for yamaha released the LE r1 in 2006. Im just saying a racer is a racer and why would yamaha pay somebody to come out and be a blocker.. you win 2 world championships to take a backseat to somebody else I would find that a little bit of disrespect ..
