Good Times, The Big Trophy, $600 Bucks, and Soreness...In That Order

Team Sidewinder bested all comers this past Saturday in the hot-as- CMRA 8-hour mini endurance race. It was not without some drama, though, as our Honda Ride Smart-framed, CRF150R powered bike sputtered off the start line and took us further and further towards the rear of the field. We brought the bike in about 10 minutes into the race and lost a bunch of time fixing the problem (float bowl loose, leaking, causing fuel starvation and dumping fuel after a jet change before the race started).

With this fixed, we headed back out and started laying down some laps. The bike was fine again, but we were in 17th place overall after the first hour. Several laps down and with stiff competition, all we could do was ride and hope the race would come to us.

Over the course of the next few hours, we watched as some of our competition ran into issues of thier own. Mechanicals requiring pit stops and crashes requiring repair by others meant that we had, once again, acheived parity. We took the lead back in the 6th hour (I think) and held onto it until the end, taking the class and overall win by more than a lap. We logged just a tick under 500 race miles on the bike. We bagged the big trophy and the big bucks for the win - $600.

52 bikes (of which, if memory serves, 50 made the start) made for a very crowded track at times. This is often fun and sometimes frustrating, but that's endurance racing for you. It's all good!

Props to my team (Pappy, Steve G., and Derek T.) for helping to make it a great day at the track. Many thanks to Shogun Motorsports for providing the purse money; we can use it, we need a new top end. Many thanks to ROADandTRACK (Keith H.) for the supple suspension. Much thanks to SCRC John (John H.) for the sticky Bridgestone tires that never faltered once during the race and looked nice enough to race a few more sprints with if a person so desired.

Man, my thighs are still sore (and my broken heel is still broken, but at least it didn't bother me on the bike).

Great job Linz!
I expected no less.

Has this bike ever been to Motorcycles Unlimited? They had a Ride Smart/150R up there a few months back.

Congrats. And thanks for the pre-race advice. It really helped me out. And if it makes you feel ne better I rode 6.1/2 of the 8 hours either on our f6/f7 bike or the NSR50. I can barely walk still! See you at Cresson!
