Checkout motorcycle-superstore to get some gear on the cheap. You can get geared up with decent stuff for fairly cheap (I just picked up a $150 KBC helmet for $50).

Buells are fun bikes, lot of low end, doubt most of these guys have rode one could be wrong though. I had fun with mine while it lasted not a bad beginner bike.

My sister just picked up an 08 250 three weeks ago. I love that little bike, and ride it wayyyy more than she does.

I know you've got a favorite already but..

I own a Suzuki gs500 and think VERY highly of it.

It's as fast as my (stock) LT1 Camaro, and more forgiving as well.
It'll run forever AND...

The maintenance is cake.
Air cooled twin, as simple as can be. I've had mine halfway apart, together, apart, and together again running better than ever.

Coming from a place where getting your hands alittle dirty is half the fun, this little guy is a blast.

Plus, knowing that I'm more the mechanic than half the chrome shining/plastic having/electronic not-knowing/ mofos makes me smile.

That's because your sisters bike has hot pink wheel stripes and you can express your homosexuality in a non threatening environment. You can always blame it on said (amazing) little sister. Maybe that's just my opinion.

That's it. Your bike will be completely taken apart when you get home.

my first bike was a naked '01 GS500. great learner bike, and sometimes i wish i still had it. ninja 500 is also an excellent choice.

I started on a '92 GS500E I picked up for $700. Great little learner bike. I ran the out of that thing and when it finally gave way I made a go kart out of it.

x2 on MSF and gear first.
