Unhappy ever have the feeling to sell your bike?

... as some of you know, my 650R is my main form of transportation because i don't own a car (even thou I use my parents cars when I'm at home....)

I have been riding for about a year now and seen couple people go down in front of me. and have read/heard a lot about people going down and being hurt/passing. I am the only child and my parents care about me a lot. I've been thinking that if i go down and get hurt or worse, my parents (specially my mom) wouldn't be able to live with it. After seeing all these threads about people going down and stuff, I've been thinking a lot about selling my bike and getting a car till i finish up school. And then getting another bike when I have money and a job, because right now I'm supposed to be concentrating on school.

I hate thinking about selling my bike because I love it! Its an amazing feeling every time I ride. But the though of my parents worrying about me, everytime i go ride and just thinking about how hurt/sad my parents/loved ones would be if anything happens. I can deal with the pain of injuries but cant deal with hurting my parents.

all that being said, I think I'm gonna put my bike up for sale and seeing what happens from there. I do plan on getting anther bike, but probably later on in life.

I know i rambled on and on, but i've just been thinking a lot... anyone else ever feel like this?

I've thought many times that I should sell my bike. I guess Im a gambler and I think the reward is greater than the risk...

This is normal. Its good thing to remind yourself you are not bulletproof and that you will lose if you in a MC vs car accident.

Many riders will go through this at one time or another.

You could always buy a car so you have backup. Or you could try out track and dirt.

Also people go through stages of their life - at some point you may want to stop for a while and then get back into the sport.

+1. I also understand that the majority of crashes out there are avoidable and take appropriate action.

Do what you think is best for you. I like to ride, and I'm not likely to give it up, but I'm already older

Like Challen said, most accidents are avoidable, and you can make good choices while you're riding that can increase your chances of not going down like your friends. Good luck; whatever you decide.

we all have that thought at one point or another. it's going to happen. when you are associating with a bunch of other riders, it is going to go down a LOT more frequently. there are riding dangers on its own, then there are riders who you associate with. more riding, or more association, and the numbers will stack up significantly.

do what you feel is best for what YOU WANT to do. i understand your concern, but as stated above, you have to find out for yourself if the risk is worth the reward.

good luck on your decision whichever you choose. but choose what is best for your life, and will make YOU ultimately happy. parents will always have concerns about their children, no matter what they do in life.

I go thru my parents at me all the time. But the way I see it, people die everyday ( bless their souls) in cars, bikes, and now planes. If your time comes, it comes. Every life is planned accordingly and evrything happens for a reason. Do what you want BEST! If riding is where your heart is... Do it! Tomorrow will always be a mystery no matter where you stand.
And yes! Accidents can be avoided. They are all human errors!

look at riding as risk management. Gear eliminates some risk, safe riding eliminates mor, expecting something to happens eliminates more. Be careful, make the choice that you are most comfortable with and one that you can sustain throughout your riding life. It will never be 100% safe, nothing is.

i wish i had enough money to just buy a car now and use that for commuting. but that is a big reason for selling, i need a car to get to/from school. I've been riding to school for the past year but it sucks asking people for rides when its raining or when i have to take something big to school.

I think i'm going to go for a car for now, then save up and buy another bike... :/
