People in THIS community are hammered w the safety hammer...

but there are many that are not. Most people I know dont wear gear until they are introduced to this site. I solicite every chance I get for here and other sites along with rides coming up. WHEN I say there is gear requirements for rides, they always ask why... after the ride when they realize people actually ride... they begin to understand. Especially if someone goes down on that ride.

A member on here w a 1098 that use to do endurance racing came on one of our rides where I was leading the noob group 2 up... he was astonished at our speeds and kept thinking "a busa cant do that." I reminded him there were two faster groups ahead of us, and we take our rides seriously.

We all carry a responsibility to inform those around us; if you choose to not participate, dont complain about squids or insurance rates.

My first post and I have to say that this is a very touchy thread...Maybe you didn't hear about a guy named Chad Jones who was riding safely with full gear and hit a bed post on an overpass and fell to the freeway below, he was fighting with all he had and was pronounced brain dead and his usable organs were removed from him this morning...Why don't you go and ask his family how many deaths there will be this season....By the way, there is a benefit for him this saturday...

I'd say maybe you should see if you can find the Chronicle article on Christopher Dominguez, 17yr old kid that ran into a forerunner at 80mph. The impact threw him past the SUV, his body knocked over 2 bikes before coming to rest 40+ feet past the front end of the SUV.

...ask about a former member from this former who ran wide in a turn and hit another bike . 2 riders lost and the pillion, an exchange student in the hospital.

...send a message to the road rash queen. Ask her, ask their families, their friends if they think sugarcoating and ignoring the elephant in the middle of the room are better than reality & facts.

I'm not saying to ignore it, I'm just saying that the way the thread was made was way to laxative...but hey, if that's the way you wanna spread the word than have at it...I just think there's better ways of doing it...

It's an open forum... I'm not a mod, so I've got no control.
..by the same token, you're more than welcome to create your own thread.

Honestly, there wasn't much reason for the thread. The way you went about it is pretty lame IMO. We already have a "wrecks this yr" thread. That about covers it and speaks to people. This thread does not. Like creek said, there are better ways of going about it, but whatever. Sometimes I think you just make threads and say stuff to get a rise out of people and wait to jump on anyone disagreeing with your message.

I had lost track of the 'Wrecks this year thread', and created this with the idea/concept of it being like a football pot etc. What it turned into is what you/we mutated it too. 1, read that 1 person grasped the concept and posted on it. Seemed a pretty simple 'intent'
If there are 'better ways to go about it', get off your and do it. There's a buttload of wagontrainers, there's a buttload of naysayers...but the # of doers... a much smaller percentile. Where's Creek's....where's yours?

Disagree with my 'messages' all you want, but show some intelligence and thought when you do it and we can have a discussion...fail that and yep, I'm
probably gonna jump on ya.

Why would you make a "pot" on people dying, especially if they are fellow riders, whether they be squids or not, why would you wanna make a pot on another person dying...makes no sense...Do you have kids? I'm sure you would love it if someone made a thread about what age your daughter is gonna get raped at or when your son will die in a motorcycle wreck trying to follow daddy...Put in in prospective for ya...It's not a humane thing to do to place money on people dying, or getting hurt so bad that they have no idea how to pee by themselves at the age of 30...

lord save me from the illiterate...

Creek, where do you see money mentioned?

Quote:

'IDEA/CONCEPT of it being LIKE'... now lets note that we have 2 or 3 estimates, and no money mentioned. Logic and common sense should then infer that monetary gain is not the objective.

Every naysayer has their right to sound off, but we can note each one of you has yet to produce anything 'better'. Here's an old phrase for ya....

or get off the pot. Don't like the method, try doing something better and more productive than complaining.

see post 93. "and created this with the idea/concept of it being like a football pot etc"

typically a football or superbowl pot involves all parties buying squares for predetermined amount. who evers score, or in this case riders die, wins the money.

there, i , wiped, flushed and got off the pot.

I only said money because you stated " the idea of it being like a football pot"...I mean why would you even reference that...I don't believe that there is any need for a "better" thread, how can anything be good if it's talking about people getting injured and/or dying...But as I stated before, if this is the way you feel you need to get the word out then have at it, I just think there are different ways that aren't so uncaring...

Only because you assumed... why then?

Maybe so people might understand the concept.. of providing #'s.
Ie: 15 wrecks, 4 fatalities. I would think that the lack of any mention of money or a 'buy in' might be a subtle clue that money is not involved.

Now the idea of pointing out accidents/deaths is a reminder to those riders still with us, to think. This one, an oblique approach as opposed to the more direct one with Racers accident list.

If you want some candy coated approach...then go do it and quit complaining...
