its pretty sad on that note too because a lot of guys ditch this site because of all the hate they get for not wearing gear. there is a point where it gets annoying as hearing and seeing people bash on someone for not having a jacket and this and that and knee pads and oh that... all while most of us are riding like fools to begin with. I know you are not one riding like a fool (i admit i'm one), just ranting.
Werd.

I've never been one to flame anyone for not wearing gear, sure I will advise and try to persued them into making better decisions about their riding attire. Never to simply shoo them away like a stray dog for their choices on gear or lack their of. That ain't right. I'm with you on this one Dave.

What good does it do to bash people? Make your internet ego feel better? Catch more bees with honey than vinegar. End rant.

I get the occasional bashing for lack of gear here and there, because I lack the money to buy the gear. If you want to promote wearing gear that's all good, as I do myself but if you constantly pester some people whom lack the financial ability to get gear it isn't helping. I will occasionally wear shorts simply because I lack a lot of pants not because I feel it makes me look cool, that's not why I own a bike its my mode of transportation and a hobby I'm passionate about.
meh about this making sense more of a rant.
and hopefully the toll stays down low.

Cool

Good question. It will be a lot if people don't learn from the passing of guys like Tim and Coach Dave. A lot of guys have taken it to the track. There is always other guys who come along that want to be the fastest guy on the street. They fade away when they see people die. Then the cycle starts the next year. Unfortunately, many will crash and burn for taking corners too fast, wreckless cagers, or riding bike reckless. Riding "the pace" in small groups with people you know or backroads you know is the safest way to go for me. Most sportbike riders have "need for speed" and accept the danger that goes with it. I wear full gear all the time. But I don't ride to work, bars, stores, etc on short trips. I only ride back roads. Let's not preach gear again this summer. "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still".

That is no reason...

Mesh jacket less then $100, cheap gloves, less then $50, lid less then $50
walmart boots $30.

Not great, stylish or durable gear but less then $250 you can be reasonably protected.

You know, a sight sponsor ought to make a newb "kit".

You act as if everyone has a spare 250 dollars around to spare, and they don't always. You do offer up a cheap solution to getting gear that's beuno. to make it clear I wear a lid, and jacket every time I ride use to be gloves to but don't have another pair yet, and boots should be soon.

If people REALLY wanted gear, they would include it in their costs for the bike.

It's like buying an Aston Martin, and not having enough money each month for insurance or gas....

+1 on leathers. Wear them regardless of how hot it is. For those who complain so much about the heat, maybe a summer protection jacket would be better.

I wear my gear when i smoke cigarettes, it prevents the cancer from entering my lungs.

I wear my gear when taking a shower, that way i don't slip in the tub.

I wear my gear when eating, it prevents me from choking, not to mention, helps me chew my food the proper 27 times before ingesting.

I'll die when Death takes me.

I don't really think it's the death part that's the problem. It's what happens when you don't die. When you have to go through skin grafts, corrective surgeries, and painful PT.

Nothing says "I play by my own rules" like that badass who now door greets at Wal-Mart, limps badly, and has a hard time remembering how to tie his shoes because he chose to not wear his gear. (This actually happened to a kid I worked with.)

If you want to go without gear then that is the choice that you make and I usually don't give a how other people ride, but romanticizing it with the "if it's my time it's my time" garbage is pathetic. I've seen plenty of badasses have things go wrong and I can promise that none of them were laying on the ground being cool when parts that were inside are now outside. If they were concious that is.
