Sadly, my parents are squids. My dad used to ride in his teens, rode dirtbikes with me the first year or two i started, even took the msf course, but i don't trust them on the street. They bought a Raider a few weeks ago, luckily they are smart enough to buy some legit jackets, gloves, full faced helmets, and riding boots. They are riding to Austin this weekend for the rally, i'm scared they are going to get in over their head.

a few weeks ago i stop at a stop light with a on the median asking for change and he said if i was Crazy riding with all the gear on on this Hot day...i laughed and said "im as crazy as you standing there all day in the sun asking for change from a biker with no cup or spare change holder"

only regret i have riding with full gear is my helmet...the shark s650 helmet is not great with the heat..does breath and the two air vents dont work very well...i had the helmet over a year now and i looking for a more breathable helmet

Yep! I had a non rider ask me if I was hot wearing full gear. I replied, "I would rather sweat than bleed".

i am actually cooler in my gear. when I'm stopped the sun hitting my bare arms is hotter then the jacket. I've sat in line for the ferry one day for an hour and actually tested that theory, i was more comfortable in the leather jacket, and no sunburn the next day

You ride at your own risk. I would advise you to ride with gear... but if you choose not to, then that's you fault, when you eat pavement. I'm not one to get all pissy and , but I would be concerned for your safety. But in the end, it's ultimately the riders decision, weather they decide to wear gear or not. If your going to stick with me and my group and I don't want you around, I'd treat you like a stray dog.... BEAT IT, !!

+1

I would consider myself still a noob, but I can tell you that a group influence goes along way on just a few people. But you hear everyone say "Gear FTW" and then you have pictures up of people riding in their bathing suits???....As a new rider what am I supposed to think?

Wear gear until I'm a good rider and then it's okay not too???

Not sure why you'd WANT to guess how many riders are going to die this year, but to each his own....

How about a thread with the title "How many accidents can we prevent this season?"

We have turned people away and they have left the groups.

If they want to follow behind us, that's their choice.

We have also seen squids go down on our rides trying to pass up our group and ride w faster guys. We still stopped for them long enough to make sure they were ok, then left them there since they did put the group in danger by their wreckless riding around us and trying to show off their meteocre skills at best on the street.

It's not something you can measure that way... and ghod knows enough people have problems listening and or reading.

The topic/idea may be morbid...but might stick start to stick in peoples heads as we start getting #'s and accident reports.

Gonna say somewhere in the area of 35 accidents, and 12 fatalities by.. October, within houston and surrounding areas.

The only reason we rode like that was for photo opportunity hilariousness. (whom no one can deny that it was funny as ) and two, we also had a vehicle of people we know and whom also ride following us. No, I'm not saying that we couldn't have wrecked, we absolutely could have. WE made that choice. We also came away from it saying that we could not understand how people could ride comfortably without gear.

Now off to the bar in no gear to get completely wasted and ride home like a bat outta !
