New to the area-Supermoto roads

Hey guys I just moved to the downtown area and I'm wondering where I may find some good supermoto roads-Some good twisties and some good scenery. Any advice on how to get out of the downtown area with minimal freeway use is greatly appreciated too. Any other supermoto riders out there?

From downtown you only have one / two choices: Allen Parkway or Memorial Drive both go west. Both are nice, twisty, scenic. Both are unsafe with little runoff and hard biker eating roadside obstacles. Only turns you can do safely are the cloverleafs where Memorial hits Waugh. Good turns on a motard, not too fast, maybe 45- 60 MPH.

Good luck finding good riding in Houston. Why do you think MH is so popular....it's not cause we're all out riding.

I ride nearly everyday. And, just ouside my neighborhood are some of the funnest roads around.

To actually leave the city, you have to take the highway. I recommend NOT 45. I haven't been on I-10 in a while, though it's all new to the West. Once you're outside the city, the roads to the North/Northeast are twistie and scenic.

In town: Memorial Drive & Allen Pkwy are good, but VERY short, heavy traffic at times, and bacon patrolled.

Going West: I-10 construction is completed so its fairly safe and you can take the HOV, but there aren't any fun sport bike routes going West until you hit Austin.

Most of the fun is North through the Sam Houston National Forest. See our Forest Gnome Tour Guide, CaligoneTX or the other Forest Gnomes.

There's a ride going to the Northeast side this Saturday. Meeting @ Shell Station, I-45 and TX-242 at 9am (see thread link in post #2). There's a couple of us coming in from the Downtown area, meeting at I-10 and Shepherd. PM for full details.

Sup dude, welcome to MH.
Check the events and meets section.
Theres some fun roads up north, but its a good distance from downtown.
You can get pretty much anywhere in Houston going down city streets, but sometimes that can be just as dangerous if not more.
I've been throwing my tard in the back of my truck and just bringing it up north to hit the twisty's.
If you wanna tag along, drop me a line, I usually ride on weekends. Got room for one more.

There are some really nice roads out here. It's worth it to make the trip out of downtown!

Thanks guys!

Wow thanks for all the replies guys! I really try to avoid the big group rides, I would like to find 2-3 motard guys to run around with. Having fun on a sportbike and having fun on a motard really entail two different types of riding-in my experience. Sounds like north, northeast is the place to go. I think I'm digging the put the bike in the back of the truck idea. 60 mi of freeway on a motard and your ready for a nap!

Thanks again guys for all the relpies.

Motard guys feel free to pm me, I've got a lot of free time this summer and am looking to hit up the sam houston area.

Stay safe.

negative. some fun roads out west.

racer's road out by katy / sealy / brookshire. and there's also crabb river road a short hop down tx-99. if you're feeling more adventurous you could always do the fayetteville run.

I have a motard but it is only for fun. No riding on the road from me.
I plan to ride around and look for stuff to jump and take it to the road race track and MX tracks.
Maybe we can ride down town and find some stairs to jump?
I have a buddy that lives by there and that could be a good rally point.

Can you post a map? I've been out that way several times. Only came across 1458 which is ok, but more for cruisers.
