Do we need to ban cell phone usage and driving in htown?

I been searching for a poll thread but couldnt find one. It amazing how many accidents I see on the road on a daily basis, even in the busiest of rush hour traffic I can see people texting, dialing, etc at 60 mph coming up to a dead stop traffic screeching there tires to stop because their mind was somwhere else and not paying attention to what is infront of them. Im always worried when I hit a traffic jam and if someone is goin to rear end me as they are not paying attention on the road ahead of them because they are on there cell doin whatever it is. I however dont see why a phone call or text cant wait till you pull over or until your stop you vehicle.

I remember when they only had phones at home and work, everyone lived...the came the pagers....you'd see folks fly off the road to the nearest pay phone.....then the cell phone....wow...makes for my daily rides to and from work "interesting" to say the least!

A law against cell phone usage isnt necessary. Some of us can take a short call and drive at the same time.

Enforcing the laws against distracted driving on the other hand...

There's no need for a new law.

On Army bases...having a cell phone on is not even allowed while in the car. If the military police catch you talking on the phone while driving, then it gets reported to your commander.

I agree the poll needs another option but I think all usage by the driver should be banned. But I would accept hands free only as a first step.

The problem is not the hands it is the mind. When people are talking they are not paying attention.

Yes, there are some talented people who can talk and text without causing any problem but MOST people just can't handle it.

Look at how many people can't handle driving a standard transmission, or a car without power steering or need cruise control instead of simply paying attention to how fast they are going or ....

It would be more effective to just ban stupid people. Sperm should have to pass through an IQ filter.

Hands free is a lot like talking to a passenger in the car with you, so I would be OK to try that for a while and see what the accident statistics look like after a year or so.
If they improve then we're done, if not then I agree with a ban.
I don't care who you are, if you are on a cell phone you are at least a little distracted. Many people are VERY distracted.

In the UK it's points on your licence and a fine leading to a ban if you're caught using a cell phone in a moving vehicle unless it's with handsfree.

Eating an apple will also get you nicked!!!

yeah that is my point - I in favor of banning ALL cell phone usage. I was just in favor of adding the hands free selection to the poll.

What is worse is that full mobile internet is coming (its actually here now in testing). Full internet radio, streaming movies, etc. in the car while driving - imagine the chaos that is coming...

NOPE...cuz then next will be eating a double cheese while driving....or writing down a quick note on a napkin. Accidents happen. Don't like it, ride a bicycle.
