need help asap gsxr1000

I have a 03 gsxr1000 and I'm having a big problem with it. Around 8k or so the thing cuts out and starts bucking like a bull then completely dies and you have to turn the key off then try and restart. A lot of times, it won't even spin over at first, but if you wait a second or 2 it will fire back up and run like a beast until you hit about 8k, then the cycle starts all over again... I've already checked all the obvious things, ie. Plugs, coils, tb, injectors, batt, alt, pc3, connectors...

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a 1k thing, or the smaller suzukis? Someone said possibly a crank pos. Sensor, or cam pos. Sensor? Explains the bucking at high rpms, but completely dying then running fine?!?!?!

Many thanks in advance,
-travis

I think the Suzuki sticker on the side of the bike is the problem. peel that off or possibly trade it and the bike should start working just fine.

Could be the TPS, either the primary or secondary. It could also be the fuel filter and pick up screen. It may just be a loose pick up coil plate.

If you don't want to play "Battleship" with your money by replacing parts till you hopefully find the right one, bring it by and we can diagnose the issue.
I can give you a good diagnostic price once I see the bike.

As for the suzuki sticker theory, highly unlikely.

I've checked all wires, none bare or charred.

Swapped coil packs.
Swapped tps sensor(s) (had spare tb's)

Patrick, my dad and I are loyal customers and I would love to let yall have it but I'm in college station, so any internet help would be awesome.

Thanks

I have the same bike (but haven't had this exact problem).
Try unplugging the PC3 and run directly off of the stock ECU. If that's not it, I'm thinking fuel pump or pressure regulator.

map sensor? seen the same symtoms b4 caused by the MAF/MAP. rare but take a look, cam/crk pos snsr could be a likly cause. seen that b4 too much more common. if u have a DMM you can run live voltage readings see what the tps/crk/cam/map/maf sensors are running @ if u know the specs.

Even better would be a lab scope and check the wave forms. I cant count how many times those things find querky electrical issues with cam/crank sensors and fuel injectors.

so after much frustration, i finally seem to have found the problem. i had removed the secondary butterflies, set valve, and had bumped the timing up with the dynojet ign. module, had a TRE, wideband datalogger, and pcIII and it ran fine before this problem had started. i replaced the butterflies, re-wired the set valve, and removed the ign. mod. TRE and pcIII, and the bike ran like the day it left the showroom floor... so i started adding the peices on one by one, pcIII, then set valve removed again, then secondary butterflies, then ignition module and it ran great... until i put the TRE back on it. then it occured to me, WTF do i need a TRE and ignition module for? i guess they were interfering with one another. i had put the TRE on it when i first got the bike, and just recently put the ignition module on it without thinking... lesson learned. Now the bike is back to the badass bike it used to be.

Thanks again for all the help,
-Travis

oh and twisthappy, pm replied

Without the TRE the stock speed limiter is back in place. The ignition module doesn't get rid of that. I also run both, but have no problems.

Not be a stickler, but the initial post didn't have all of the mods you mention in your latest post. Might have helped to know that up front.
