Custom Molded Earplugs

Squoddy started a thread about hearing loss so instead of whoring it up, I thought I would pass this along...

I have a problem with expanding foam earplugs, they make my ear canals ache after about 15-30 mins.
I have done a fair amount of research trying to find an inexpensive way to have custom molded earplugs. Buyer reviews seems to vary so I guess everyone's experience is different.
I found a kit from Cabela's, but it seems they stopped selling them. The plugs I made with my kit seem to work pretty well, so I am going to reccomend them to anyone looking for this kinda thing.

This is from www.earplugsuperstore.com

I haven't dealt with these people but these sound like what I bought from Cabela's.

BTW the price is $13.95 for one kit (enough for one set of plugs)...

Radians One-Step Custom Molded Earplugs (NRR 26)

Watch a Demo Movie for Radians Custom Plugs

Radian's One-Step easy do-it-yourself custom ear plug kit lets you make true custom molded plugs in about 10 minutes. Now you can get full custom molded earplugs without waiting for them to come back from the lab, and at a fraction of the price.

In addition to use in the workplace, these great plugs have dozens of everyday applications including shooting, sporting events, construction, lawn care, assembly lines, farming, auto races, swimming, flying, and much more! And they are safe enough to use for your children with ear tubes (grommets for our friends in Europe...)

These one-step do-it-yourself custom molded earplugs are an excellent choice for anyone who needs to wear hearing protection but hates the hassle and waste of conventional disposable plugs. If you cannot find a comfortable reusable plug, these are the perfect solution.

Available in 4 colors and with the option of a lanyard, these great plugs are a terrific option to conventional lab-made custom plugs. They are not as finished and they are not as effective as the custom plugs we make in our earmold labs, but the difference in price makes these single step do-it-yourself custom plugs an excellent choice.

Radians One-Step Do-It-Yourself Custom Molded Plugs Offer All These Advantages:

Soft, permanent custom fit
No mess
All day comfort
Simple, easy to follow instructions
Safe, non toxic and hypo-allergenic silicone
Environmentally friendly
Long lasting and washable
Made in the USA

Although I don't own any, some shooters I know say these work pretty well at the gun range. Coincidentally I was at the range yesterday and talking of these. Probably a cool thing under the helmet. They are available locally at some Academy stores.

I was fitted for a custom set of similar ear plugs. I found that the only problem was while road racing, I'd sweat, and the plugs would get sweaty and move out of position (in addition to feeling generally gross). I stopped wearing them and am wearing the foam deals..

Just my 2 cts.

they weren't fit right to begin with - no way custom molded ear plugs "move out of position". Sounds like your ear canal was not free of wax when they molded them to you.

Do you have sweat glands in your ear canal??

If you do, medical science would like to have a word with you as most humans do not.

You can usually find a booth at the most any gun show that is making custom plugs.

I think they wanted $10 at the high Caliber Gun Show.
