motorcycle insurance thoughts

Will be changing from my current provider to a new major company.
Yes checked rates and theirs are simply the best available.

I am trying to decide whether to add collision (meaning if I wreck it they pay)

My bike cost me <$5k, prob could sell it for around $4500 now. Its all paid off.

regardless of the other coverage options, If I add collision coverage
$1000 deductible adds $200/ yr
$500 deductible adds $300/ yr
$100 deductible adds $500/ yr

So does having collision make sense in my case?

I only have liability. IF something should happen to my bike- well, I haven't put very much into it and would seem silly to spend that much more again just to insure it. Mine is $75 a year.

I might as well just buy a second bike with what full coverage would cost.

no down payment, State Farm is the best for sport bike insurance. they dont look at what type of bike it is.. just the cc's

here's proof: (sorry for the crappy pic, im on my phone)

25/50/25 coverage, $7000 stated amount of bike, $500 deductible = $575 for 6 months

State Farm was a bit higher than Progressive for me...

3 bikes, 2 1200 cc, full coverage with added aftermarket parts coverage, $500 deductable, $96 a month (in Harris county which has about the 3rd highest rates in the country)

I look at it like this.. if you can afford to replace the bike, liability and theft

If you can't afford to replace/rebuild the bike, full coverage

With my old bike (early 90s) I did that too - just liability but I only paid $450 for it.

Seems like collision and the medical is what pushes up the costs.

Any reason you don't carry uninsured/ under insured? or theft?

I don't think they are that much more and you bike is worth about $3k, right?

I have SF for life, auto, AND house but Progressive is about 1/2 the cost for MORE coverage. Been with SF for 17 years - same agent. I can't believe they can't get any closer than that in price.
