Scam??

So I've been looking to buy a bike for awhile and I received this email today from a guy whose ad I responded to:

"Hello,

First of all I want to thank you for your interest for my bike. I am selling this 2006 Suzuki GSX-R600 because my platoon has been sent back to Iraq and don't want it get old in my backyard. The price is low because I need to sell it before Jun 14th. This GSX-R is in excellent working conditions, no scratches, flaws or any kind of damage, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions.. The price is not negotiable, $2700 firm. The bike is in Fort Kent ME, in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping. Let me know if you are interested, email back. Engine Size (cc): 600 cc, Exterior color: Orange, Year: 2006, Mileage: 4318, Type: Sport bike, Title: Clear."

..This sounds too good to be true. Any thoughts?

I think I've heard of scammers using the "soldier shipping out" scam quite a bit these past few years.

The price seems way too good to be true.

"Serviceman shipping out" is not always a scam (know of on MHer who got a good deal on a bike cause of deployment) but if they are not local then they almost certainly are...
Here is one of my experiences...

Re: 2006 Yamaha Raven Edition YZF-R1 - Like New

Hey ,
The Yamaha is in great condition and runs great, accident free, no scratches, no need for additional repairs, it is like new with only 1,950 miles and still under warranty .The reason I am selling it, is because I am in the military and my unit will be sent back to Iraq for a mission that will take 6 months and I don't want the bike to get old in my garrage.I am selling it so low because I need to sell it before September 5th.
The price that I hope to obtain for it is 3.000 $ . I am the first owner and have the clear title in hand .
I already have tones of emails so I hope you understand that I need to sort them out and I hope you won't make me loose time as it has already happened to me.If you will decide to buy it I am willing to pay for the shipping costs .If you are still interested e-mail me back .
More pics available at :

---

Certainly I am still interested. email me a phone number and the best
time to call and we can set up a meet.

---

Hey,
It will be very good if you can come here and pick up the bike but I am in a military base right now and I have restrictions that is why I have chosen to sell it over the web marketplace . I hate to find a buyer over the internet but this is the situation right now and I must sell the bike until September 5th.
I am currently deployed in Bismarck, ND and the bike is here with me . We are training, getting ready for Iraq. I am only allowed to check my email twice a day. I hope you can understand that we will have to stick to email for now.I will handle the shipping. I will ship it with DAS. I will take care of the shipping charges, like I said in my first email. I think I can have it there in 3-5 working days. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 3 days testing period after delivery. During that 3 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested in buying it so I can ask eBay to send you the details on how this works.
If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (name, address and #) so we can get things started.
Rick

---

Hey, that is great news!

I know the base commander there and I will be in Minot for base review
on Sep 2. so I am sure it won't be a problem for me to visit you and
pick up the bike then.

Let me know which unit you are in and I will call and get it set up for you.

---

You do not have to worry about the safety of this transacion because it is just like cash on delivery (COD) and money will not exchange hands until you will receive , inspect and register the bike .
I will need you to provide me your infos : name , phone # and shipping address , I will contact eBay , provide them your infos and start the transaction . After that eBay will get in touch with you , will let you know the steps that you will have to follow in order to close the deal . If you agree , you will make the payment and forward the payment details to eBay . They will hold the funds until you will receive , inspect and register the bike under your name . Money will not be released to me until you will confirm that you are pleased with the received item . And if something goes wrong with the shipping ( not the case ) or you do not agree with the received bike you can send it back on my expense and your money will be 100 % fully refundable no questions asked .
Let me know if you are still interested .

sure buddy, sure...

Easy way to tell if it is a scam is to email the guy back and say, "Hey, I would like to come by and take a look at the bike." If he gives you some BS reason why you can't come and see the bike in person then walk away because it is likely a scam.
