Texan Terror

Ok so I posted on the Newsbot b/c that was the onlyl thread I saw about it... didnt wanna repost. But nobody is responding!

Spies' new lid..
Anybody have more details on this? If I remember correctly from the announcers, the AF graphics and name "Texan Terror" came from a P-51 Mustang that was named the "Texan Terror" (or "Texas Terror" ??)

Im friends with Ben's cousin who is a fellow aviator here in my hometown so naturally his new lid and the story behind it has my attention.

yea, i found all those sites, but thanks!
i swear when i was watchin the races i heard one of the announcers mention it came from a WWII P-51 fighter which is why im so interested. (as a pilot and aviation junkie, the mustang is my favorite plane and Ben has been my favorite rider since before he was AMA champion) im rewatching the races now trying to find where they were talking about it

Found it! And the websites above have it wrong.. it's "Texas Terror" after a 1944 P-51 Mustang; hence, the Air Force star. If anyone has the races recorded, the announcers mention it in race 2 at about 20:30 min in.

I googled the plane and evidently there was at least 4 Mustangs named "Texas Terror" as the one in '44 is named "Texas Terror IV"

I guess a lot of ppl could care less, but Ben is my rider and I love the P-51D with that RR Merlin engine, sweetest sounding plane ever. So I guess this was just icing on the cake for me!

yeah, they always introduce Spies as being from Longview Texas, not Longview America.

either way ... I'll cheer for any American, and my daughter now loves Spies after I told her he's from Texas.

How long do you think before HJC offers up his helmet design for us mortals?

When I go to Europe and they ask me where I am from I say Texas instead of the US Always gets a reaction.

One tour I was on had people from US, US, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, US, Canada, .... and Texas . The tour guide (from New York) wadded up his face and said "Texas is part of the US?" I said "Germany and Italy are part of the EU but that didn't stop them".

Of course I also like to keep up the "Texas" image but talking about carrying my weapons and showing them my CHL. That also freaks those sheep out.
