Didn't realize there were 2 threads on this! Maybe the Mods can combine them?

Anyway, again I say thanks for the well wishes and concern. Accident wasn't too bad. I'm ok with just a rashed knee (no knee pads... Oops!).

I just hope the insurance doesn't call it a total!

Hahaha... I did, man! As soon as I stopped, I flipped right back up and went straight for my poor baby!

I went back to the crash site and picked up all the debris. It was mostly the flyscreen, along with chunks of pieces from the Instrument cluster scattered over 80 ft along the shoulder. Must've been from the impact when it hit the passenger door.

sorry to hear about rob going down and definately glad he is okay.

i wonder if this could have been avoided. kind of sounds like my lowside on the street that i could have avoided with a larger following distance.

anyway, you guys be careful out there. I don't like these threads!

I think you are assuming I ran into the rear of a car in front of me? There was no vehicle in front of me when he decided to make his u-turn. I actually had noticed him when he was going northbound, and although not looking directly at him, my senses went on alert because he was looking indecisive. I wasn't completely focused on him, though, as it was more a peripheral acknowledgment that he was there. I was about to look back to my right to switch 1 lane over, but before I could even do so, he had almost immediately made his u-turn right in front of me. If I had 2 more seconds, I would have cleared him, but I braked enough that my bike wasn't going too fast by the time I bailed/lowsided (right before impact). I'd rather hit pavement than have my body broadside his car. Thus the damage is only to the headlight assembly and the Instrument Cluster, and I got away with minor road rash. Forks, and front wheel assembly are fine (I think).

I probably could have avoided it if I had just stayed home that evening.

Here's the taboo incident of that whole evening.... Just a few hours earlier, I was with my wife visiting her friend. I got to talking with her husband about his car (he's restoring a classic muscle car). He then asked about my bike. He then asked how long have I been riding. He then asked if I ever crashed?!!!

I was like (uh, you don't ask that question). Nevertheless I answered something like "Man, it was a while ago. I think... maybe... I think it was in '92. So it's been a while. Man, that just means the odds are against me that I'm due for another one! Man, I need to knock on wood..." but I didn't find any wood to knock on. Kinda weird, because 3 hrs later... I crashed.
